Former interim WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (24-2-1, 18KOs) is ready to once again strap on the gold and green belt when he challenges current WBC Silver lightweight champion Reyes Sanchez (20-3-1, 11KOs) of Mexico City, MX, on February 26th of next year at a site to be determined. DeMarco of Tijuana, MX, by way of Los Mochis, captured the interim belt back in ’09 via tenth round TKO of Jose Alfaro only to succumb to the late Edwin Valero in his next bout earlier this year. Since then, the twenty-four year old DeMarco came back with a devastating second round knock out of former title challenger Daniel Attah in July.

“The opportunities are coming and they are by themselves, I give thanks to God for the experience he has given me in my short career,” the humble DeMarco recently stated after an intense workout. “I feel able to fight not only Reyes Sanchez but the actual champions of the world in the lightweight division.”

Sanchez is a tall and rugged brawler whose two of only three losses have been to elite competition such as current IBF lightweight champion Miguel “Titere” Vazquez and former title challenger Ricardo “Pelon” Dominguez.

“I feel stronger and with more experience and the truth is that I feel very confident,” DeMarco said of his chances against the current champ. “I am very confident that my time is coming. Our time is coming for us to move forward.”

  1. Valero whooped him good. Wish the guy was still around, Valero was great just too bad that he had soo many troubles. RIP Valero

  2. I thought he has retired after the big fiasco
against Valero ,my favorite fighter. It’s very important that Demarco work on his conditioning .I personaly doubt that he will be able to reach the top because he is not determined and dedicated .When he faught Valero ,he was exhausted and weak as if he were no into boxing anymore .He seems to be a nice kid ,but ad a boxer he has a lot of hard work to execute and a lot to prove. He is not that popular in the US ,in fact, his name in the US is almost unknown .Anyway, wish him good luck on his next fight and I hope he won’t quit like he did with Valero .
