Now that Floyd Mayweather has retired the only fight I am looking forward to is Miguel Cotto vs Canelo, which is scheduled for Nov. 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Cotto’s future seemed to be shot after he lost back-to-back fights in 2012, to Mayweather and then Austin Trout.

That’s when he turned to Freddie Roach, who has guided him to consecutive knockout victories over Delvin Rodriguez, Sergio Martinez (for the middleweight titles) and Daniel Geale.

Canelo Alvarez vs Miguel Cotto Betting Odds

The latest installment of the Puerto Rico-Mexico rivalry is sure to sell, especially with two marquee names such as these. Also, both fighters are coming off impressive KO wins, like Canelo’s destruction of James Kirkland.

Many casino websites like casino.netbet.co.uk and OddsChecker.com have Canelo Alvarez as an early favorite, with some bookies offering 2/5 and others a slightly longer 4/9.

On paper, Cotto has a better resume. However at 24 years-old Canelo’ has already garnered an impressive amount of in-ring knowledge.

“Canelo” stands at 5ft 9 inches while Cotto is 2 inches shorter and Alvarez’s reach extends 3.5 inches longer than Cotto’s at 70.5.

Even if Cotto does lose the fight Cotto will end up making considerably more money than Alvarez.

ESPN Deportes reports that Cotto has been guaranteed a purse of at least $10 million plus a percentage of pay-per-view and sponsorships he could end up getting close to $30 million for one night’s work. Alvarez’s potential earnings for the bout will be roughly $6.5 million.

The odds are perhaps a little too favorable towards the cinnamon haired Mexican but his youth, size and obvious talent make him a rightful favorite.
