Hear his apology to Canelo about that rap song!

The September 17 Canelo Alvarez vs. Alfonso Gomez showdown is finally here!

On Saturday night these two Mexican warriors will go toe to toe for the WBC Super Lightweight belt. Their bout at the Staples Center in Los Angeles is paired with the “STAR POWER: Mayweather vs. Ortiz” mega event in Las Vegas.

So what will happen when “The Contender” star meets the redheaded rising superstar from Jalisco?

In this new interview with Gomez, hear what Alfonso tells me during last week’s media workout at the Azteca Boxing Club in the City of Bell. Stating that training camp has been an extremely focused one, he also says that after all the experience during his career as a prizefighter Gomez, 30, is not going to be surprised by anything Alvarez does in the ring.

The down-to-earth boxer also takes time to apologize to his foe. During the first Canelo–Gomez news conference, Alfonso (a rapper and musician who has performed with the band Hy3rid) broke into a spirited rap song while at the microphone. Many perceived this as a derogatory rap with Alvarez, 21, stating afterward, “Soy hombre, no payaso” in response.

Now Gomez explains no harm, no foul during that infamous rap on stage. No offense meant in the performance he says.

He also wants to thank all of his fans worldwide, especially during this Mexican Independence Day weekend. Gomez is appreciative of all the support he’s received for those who want to believe in the so-called underdog.

And the WBC Continental Americas titlist is more than aware he’s the “underdog” in this contest.

Admitting this is his biggest–and toughest–battle to date, Team Gomez says they’re ready for Canelo. And more than that, Alfonso wants to “shut ‘naysayers’ and bring the fight to him.”

Can he pull off the upset?

We will all find out soon.

“STAR POWER,” presented by Mayweather Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions in association with Canelo Promotions will air on HBO Pay-Per-View.
