Top junior middleweight in the world Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo (19-1, 16KOs) is planning to return to the ring on August 20 th at the Nido Sport Center in Mexicali, Mexico, against an opponent soon to be announced as he eyes the newly WBC title holder Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
Angulo is currently in Mexico and will be at ringside for Saturday’s fight between “Canelo” Alvarez and Ryan Rhodes with the intention of challenging the winner. “El Perro” last dog fight was July, 2010, against Joachim Alcine which was broadcast by HBO.
Nobody knew that will be Angulo’s last fight on US soil. It seems like this well trained breed was in the right path to being on top of the world but it came to an end 2 months after he turned down a fifth appearance on HBO but more importantly a $750,000 pay day to face today’s top contender Sergio Martinez (47-2-2, 26 KOs) at a catch weight of about 155 or 156 pounds,
Angulo was now simply an illegal alien who had snuck back into the US after being deported once before. What’s more as the story went, Angulo was being deported once again and now banned from appearing on HBO.
As Angulo was labeled M.I.A., many people started pointing fingers. Angulo’s promoter Gary Shaw claimed Top Rank’s Bob Arum ratted Angulo out. Shaw opined that, “Arum dropped a dime on Angulo to protect Miguel Cotto , as HBO asked Bob to have Cotto fight ‘Perro.’ They would have continued to pressure Bob into making that fight.”
At this point no one knows who called the INS about Angulo’s legal status. In a recent article by Gabriel Montoya, Montoya, a co-host of MyBoxingFans.com’s official Boxing Radio Show hosted by David Duenez reveals that Shaw altered the details of his story, citing a different fighter HBO was pressuring Arum to match with Angulo which only makes you wonder if his own promoter ratted Angulo out, out of greediness.

For those who might not know who Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo is, he’s a former 2004 Mexican Olympian with a tremendous bite. He’s the type of dog you want to keep leashed if the rumors are true about Televisa broadcasting his August fight, you will see what I am talking about.
It’s time to stop protecting Saul Alvarez and and give him a real test against El Perro. I predict a gruesome late round mauling.

I hope Angulo resumes his boxing career. He is very exciting to watch. Hopefully he gets the chance to challenge Canelo since he wants nothing but the best…
IM SURE IF EL PERRO WAS WHITE OR EUROPEAN THIS WOULDNT BE A BIG DEAL, BUT SINCE HE IS A MEXICAN NON WHITE FIGHTER ITS THE SAME STORY. AND DONT SAY I DONT KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT, I HAVE BEEN STOPPED ON THE FREEWAY BY BORDER PATROL AND HAD TO PROVE I WAS BORN IN THE U.S. I ASKED IF THEY STOP WHITE PEOPLE ON THE FREEWAY AND I GOT ” NO COMMENT”.
