The current and possibly future state of 2011

Everyone wants to see Mayweather-Pacquaio and Klitschko-Haye. Only time will tell if these fights will ever happen, there are some great possibilities that are much more plausible. With 2011 lined up with some great, and not so great fights, I thought of a few more interesting possibilities.

Already scheduled:

-Friday Night Fights: ESPN has set up some incredible matches for the 2011 season! I am really looking forward to seeing Cristobal Arreola fighting under the tutelage of the great Ronnie Shields.

-Devon Alexander vs. Timothy Bradley: This is a fight everyone has been waiting for. We have less than a month until this showdown happens. This is a true fight, in which the best of the division are fighting each other. I am going with my gut feeling and am picking Alexander.

-Fernando Montiel vs. Nonito Donaire: Nonito Donaire has been one of my favorite fighters. Donaire has been matched relatively tough the majority of his career and always delivers a great, entertaining fight.

-Others: I’ve always been a huge Miguel Cotto fan. Even though it looks as if he will be fighting Ricardo Mayorga, I am excited to see him in his second fight training under Manny Steward. Speaking of Manny Steward, hopefully he can put a flame under Chad Dawson and really help him use his talents to the fullest ability. Sergio Martinez is planning to make a title defense against unbeaten Serhiy Dzinziruk.

What I would like to see:

I would love to see Marcos Maidana in the ring again with Victor Ortiz. Maidana-Matthyse would also be an incredible fight, especially for the fans in Argentina (this is if Matthyse gets through Chop-Chop Corley).

Tomasz Adamek in a relevant fight would be nice. The proposed title eliminator with Sam Peter would be an interesting fight. Regardless, he is a ticket seller and a crowd pleaser. Hopefully we will see him in the ring on HBO against a Klitschko or David Haye. Its great to know that Eddie Chambers is also working his way back to the top. If he beats Rossy, Chambers-Adamek or Chambers-Solis would be great fights.

Pascal-Hopkins rematch in the United States. That puts Dawson on hold but its well worth the wait. If Dawson does not want to wait(and he may not have to because of the rematch clause), it would be great to see him fight Tavouris Cloud.

Yuriorkis Gamboa-Juan Manuel Lopez: a much anticipated fight that would make 2011 a great year.

Prospects:

I’m excited to see what will come of Sadam Ali, Julian Williams and Adrien Broner. They are all tough fighters and very entertaining. Hopefully they all get some prime television spots to showcase their talent.

Let me know what you guys want to see in 2011.

  1. Mayorga will lose but whats gonna be is all the trash talk he’s gonna do towards Cotto, and Cotto gets to shut it come fight night. Donaire I also see as overrated, and last time out Alexander looked awful. So I see it as Cotto by ko, Montiel by tko, and Bradley cruises past Alexander in a decision.

  2. The “already scheduled” fights are good fights except for Mayorga fighting anyone. No disrespect to Cotto.
I’ve always considered Alexander and Donaire to be over-rated. Still they make for interesting fights.
