Vazquez Marquez Boxing

Leaving a life long routine is difficult so that is why WBC super bantamweight emeritus champion Israel Vazquez counts the days he can return to the gym after surgery on his right eye.

Israel stated via telephone from Los Angeles, CA, “I will continue to fight but I need to do other exams that the California state athletic commission is asking for.”

“In January I was released of my medical leave and every three weeks I go with an eye doctor and get check ups. Right now I have been resting, I haven’t even been running. I am hoping to return in August or September but I need to renew my license,” Vazquez stated of Mexico City but residing Los Angeles.

The California state athletic comission requires for all licensed fighters to have a minimum of 20-60.

“I want to go after Takahiro Aoh of Japan who is the WBC featherweight champion. I don’t think I will return to the 122 lbs. and its not because of weight problems but because I think there is good match ups at 126 lbs although I would be interested in a fight against Juan Manuel Lopez,” Vazquez said who is managed by the 2007 Manager of the Year Frank Espinoza.

As far as a fourth bout against Rafael Marquez, Vazquez stated:

“I think it can happen but I don’t know anything about it. My manager Frank Espinoza, who I speak to every couple of days, has not mentioned to me the possibility,” Vazquez said. “I am very thankful to him for all he has done for me especially these couple of months when I have dealt with my eye problem. He says to me ‘just get better and then we’ll talk about boxing plans.'”
