After being banned from fighting in the U.S. for over a year, Antonio Margarito hopes to be reinstated in Nevada on Friday with possible fights on the horizon. Margarito, 32, is seeking a license in the United States. Margarito’s promoter Bob Arum said if he gets licensed, he could face Miguel Cotto in a rematch of their epic 2008 welterweight title fight in which Margarito stopped Cotto in the 11th round or Manny Pacquiao in the event a fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not finalized.

Margarito filed the paperwork for a license June 18th when Dan Pancheri, the lawyer for Las Vegas-based promoter Top Rank, dropped off Margarito’s application, an updated medical report and a 5½-page explanation from Margarito explaining his side of things about what happened in California.

Margarito cut all ties with his former trainer, Javier Capetillo. Margarito kept active by returning to the ring on May 8th in his native Mexico against Roberto Garcia in a junior middleweight bout. License or not, there will be many boxing fans criticizing the decision on Friday.

What’s your opinion should Margarito be licensed or not?

  1. Welcome back Antonio.. It was a great moment meeting you in person in Chula Vista, San Diego, CA 2-months ago, and said that You might be the only one stopping the power and speed of pacquaio!! Now wish is granted for both us, and let the fight begin on Nov 13th, 2010!! Can’t wait!! Good luck and welcome back!!

  2. Who are we to say weather he is licensed again or not ?? The California commision suspended him for one year. They felt the punishment fit the crime. Time served !! Let’s move on and see Margarito back in action.

  3. I do want to see him back in the ring, and a rematch against Cotto would be great, this would be a great fight because there is a lot in the line for both fighters, revenge for Cotto and or a “come back” win for Margarito, at the end this could sink the loser, they should name this card “Titanic”!

The first fight marked both fighters, one with his first loss and the other with a short glory, the second fight could define where both careers go, I say let’s make this happen, make sure everyone is clean and let the best man win!

  4. Absolutely! I can’t wait to see him the states again. He looked absolutely wonderful in his comeback fight. I was super duper impressed with his new tricks…El Matador….no…his boxing….Tony=Boxer! Yes!!! This is going to be a great thing. Welcome Back Tony!!!!!!!
