Eric Morel vs. Fernando Montiel

Rumor is WBO interim bantamweight champion Eric Morel will face WBO/WBC bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel on July 17 in Chiapas, Mexico.

Top Rank won a WBO purse bid for the fight with a bid of $100,500, with Montiel due to earn some $80K to Morel’s $20K, although the pot may be sweetened somewhat. It is hoped that Montiel’s belt will also be on the line as last week WBC President Jose Sulaiman was highly critical of the bout.

The winner of Chavez-Duddy will face Sergio Martinez?

Bob Arum announced today that the Julio Cesar Chavez vs John Duddy clash will be for the WBC silver title, putting the winner in line for a shot at WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. Both fighters said they are looking forward to Saturday night’s fight, which will be a twelve-rounder. “This is the most important I’m going to have to get to where I want to be,” stated Chavez. Duddy agreed, commenting “This is the biggest fight of my career.”

Vicente Escobedo vs Raymundo Beltran

On July 9 junior lightweight Vicente Escobedo (22-2, 14 KOs) and Raymundo Beltran (23-4, 15 KOs) will meet in a 10 round main event of TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo” telecast. Escobedo was slated to face ring legend Erik Morales before Morales had to pull out with an injury. In the co-featured bout, local junior featherweight Ricky Lopez (7-0, 2 KOs) looks to keep his unbeaten record intact when he takes on Florida standout Derrick Wilson (6-1-2, 2 KOs) in a six rounder.
