el-perro1By Ruben Anguiano: This Saturday Kermit Cintron 30-2-1 (27 KO) will duke it out against Mexicali, Mexico native and rising middleweight prospect Alfredo “Perro” Angulo 15-0-0 (13 KO) . Cintron is coming off a controversial draw decision over Sergio Martinez, where he was clearly knockdown and lost the fight but referee Frank Santore Jr. lost his concentration, ripping the victory from Martinez hands. Santore Jr. counted Cintron down the complete 10 seconds and waived his hands notifying that the bout was officially over. Cintron still wobbly from Martinez hard left hook complained to Santore Jr. stating it was a clash of heads.

I had Martinez clearly winning the bout and I am sure most of you did also. The judges clearly leaned towards Cintron and settled for a draw. This bout was Cintron debut at 154 lbs., I don’t see Cintron standing a chance at any welterweight championship, this could possibly be the reason why he has decided to move up in weight since the welterweight division consists of big names such as Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito, Luis Collazo and Miguel Cotto. After two devastating losses to Antonio Margarito’s slow but powerful punching style, Cintron boxing popularity has been slowly vanishing, not to mention his ESPN embarrassing meltdown back in 2005. Many boxing fans including myself criticize Cintron’s boxing style. Cintron likes to duck his head down and then begins complaining at referees for pretty much anything. To Cintron’s luck, young Angulo’s boxing style just happens to be an exact blueprint of Margarito’s style. Angulo and Margarito are not only close friends but also sparring partners. Both fighters are slow starters but every punch brings the same dynamic power. Angulo like Margarito takes an outrageous amount of punches but they got the chin to back it up.

Angulo is coming off an impressive victory over Cosme Rivera where he suffered a huge cut over his right eye but managed to keep fighting and delivered a tremendous 5th round KO with only 15 professional bouts. Many think Angulo is the less experienced man in the ring and with Cintron as the odds favorite, I still see Angulo delivering a huge upset to all Puerto Ricans with a KO late in the fight. Angulo must be smart and not oversee Cintron. This will be a great fight with once again it will be Mexico vs. Puerto Rico.

  1. I see Angulo scoring a 8th or 9th KO, this could be a very good fight.
If Cintron felt that it was head bud he will be saying an asteroid knock him out this time.

This is is Angulo’s test, good luck Perro!
