A Puerto Rican newspaper has announced that former welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KOs) has a new trainer for his upcoming clash on June 5th against Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KOs) which is scheduled to take place at Yankee Stadium.

Miguel Cotto’s new trainer is Hall-of-famer Emanuel Steward. Rumor is that Emanuel Steward had been originally hired by Foreman’s corner as a consultant but Steward however decided to take Cotto’s offer instead.

Cotto was formerly trained by his uncle, Evangelista Cotto, for the majority of his career but after a violent falling out, Cotto was then trained by friend and conditioning coach, Joe Santiago, for his last two bouts.

After a brutal beating at the hands of Manny Pacquiao last November, Miguel Cotto decided to change trainers. Cotto will keep Santiago in his corner as an assistant.

  1. I’m a huge Cotto fan and I wish he had done this for the Pacman fight e needed a true corner for that big fight…I’m glad he finally realized his weakness and got a true corner man…I’m excited

  2. i think this is a good move for cotto,, if he listen to manny and really pay attention of hat he’s saying,, cotto will be champ again for along time,, before the cotto-pacman fight,, manny said a few things that cotto has to do and has to avoid,, which one of the things cotto needed to do is throw that uppercut which he only through a few times,, when he did throw that punch it landed and it was affective,, manny steward know’s this game probably better than anybody in this sport, he trained the best and still trains th best,,,now he has another great fight to add on his resume,, i have no doubt that they will go far and win big fights,, pacman, floyd beware,, abd for everyone else, be afraid
