AbnerSizzling Action at the Quiet Cannon

It as dubbed as “Battle of the Rising Stars” and Saturday night’s show presented by All Star Boxing more than lived up to its billing. It was a barn burner of a night featuring red hot action in the ring.

This September 19 show was a real scorcher featuring seven bouts of fire at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello, Calif. All Star’s Ed Holmes and Pete Hironaka usually have these Montebello shows on Friday nights but this Saturday installment proved to be one of their very best yet.

The matchups were exciting, the crowd energetic, and the action nonstop. Featuring seven bouts of fury, the event remained a riveting affair throughout the evening. Lacing up were: Adrian Granados vs. Gaku Takahashi, Ronald Mixon vs. Lamont Williams, Jose Hernandez vs. Shibata Flores, Jessy Martinez vs. Gustavo Lopez, Lucius Johnson vs. Daniel Rodriguez, Jarrett Jeter vs. Sopaun Rin and Ernest Muhammed vs. Isaac Freeman.

There were several wars of attrition and some good scraps between these blood-and-guts warriors. When the action ceased it was gladiators Granados, Mixon, Hernandez, Martinez, Johnson, Jeter and Muhammed who were declared the victors in their matches.

The fights were thrilling and vicious and had the crowd on their feet. From brand new faces lacing up (Jeter and Muhammed making their pro debuts) to veteran and former champ Shibata Flores taking on Jose Hernandez to an all-out slugfest between Martinez vs. Lopez, this bash made for one exciting night that had spectators roaring. The fight between Jarrett Jeter and Sopaun Rin also got noticed for the heart and guts of Rin, who lost to Jeter after four rounds of fury.

Fans also took notice of rising star Ronald Mixon, who had a huge group of supporters in the audience. And the audience certainly got their money’s worth at this weekend show.

In between the bouts, ring announcer Jim FitzGerald introduced several current sluggers, former prizefighters and VIP guests including prizefighters Abner Mares, Aron Martinez, Ivan Redkach, Jared Papazian, Ruben Castillo, Danny “Little Red” Lopez, Benjamin Diaz, Jesus “Maestrito” Garcia, legendary jockey Laffit Pincay Jr. and more.

Boxing trainer Abel Sanchez and K2 Promotions’ Tom Loeffler were also there to represent Team GGG and Gennady Golovkin.

The fight night also showcased raffle opportunities for the ticket holders as ring card girl Katya modeled a leather “All Star” jacket that was raffled off (boxing’s Sam Watson was the lucky winner).

And amateur fighter Damien Lopez, 20, was also brought up into the ring. The Adidas National PAL champ will be competing in the U.S. Olympic qualifiers and to help out with the team’s growing expenses, All Star Boxing held a 50-50 cash raffle. Lopez trains with his father/trainer David Lopez and Burbank Boxing Club’s founder Steve Harpst. Harpst has known promoter Ed Holmes for years and Team Lopez was very appreciative of Holmes offer to assist with this drawing. After all the donations were gathered, the lucky winner was Yvette Martinez with Team IGMOB’s (“I GOT MINE OWN BACK”) Enrique Montez.

Saturday’s All Star show proved to be one of their most memorable events of the year. Loyal fans always flock to this San Gabriel Valley location (and also the downtown Los Angeles’ Westin Bonaventure Hotel) knowing they will catch some competitive action from these hungry, young lions. And as a bonus, they can also enjoy the always popular taco bar located in the outdoor patio of the Quiet Cannon location. Fight fans also get to meet current boxing stars, past champions and other famous faces sitting ringside. You never know who you will bump fists with at an All Star Boxing show.

The next “Battle of the Rising Stars” will be November 28 at the Bonaventure Hotel in L.A.
