Carl Froch (28-2, 20 KOs), a former two-time super middleweight titlist, will be facing Lucian Bute in his first bout since losing a decision to Andre Ward in a title unification bout in the Super Six World Boxing Classic final on Dec. 17 the fight will take place at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham on May 26.

“I have to beat Lucian on May 26 – losing in front of my own fans is just something I cannot contemplate,” said Froch. “They have traveled thousands of miles to watch me during the Super Six, and now they have a massive world title fight on their doorstep as a thank you – but it has to be a party and the only way it will be is if I keep the title here.”

Lucian Bute (30-0, 24 KOs), a native of Romania who recently became a Canadian citizen, has fought all of his previous defenses in Montreal and Quebec City, plus one in Romania. He has been criticized by many for fighting only in front of hometown crowds, which is one of the reasons he has said he accepted a deal to go to Froch’s turf despite nursing a foot infection for the past week at his South Florida training camp.

“Lucian Bute has been bothered by an infection in his foot since last Saturday,” stated Bute’s promoter, InterBox, in a statement. InterBox said that a foot specialist has prescribed antibiotics to Bute to treat the infection.

“However, the condition is improving and InterBox and Lucian Bute are confident that Lucian will be able to fight according to schedule.”

  1. Is this fight going to be shown in the U.S. other than on EPIX or EPIC or whatever it’s called? I get the felling this is gonna be a great fight that nobody sees. Bute better bring it, cause Froch fighting in front of his countrymen will be motivated as hell. Props to Bute for finally fighting away from home, in a hostile environment.

  2. Should be an interesting fight, Froch could serve as a good measuring stick to see if Bute is the second best Super Middleweight.
