It was just last week when Golden Boy announce that the rematch between Lamont Peterson and former titleholder Amir Khan was canceled after Lamont Peterson tested positive for synthetic testosterone, a banned substance.

It feels like déjà vu but where back again to announce that former welterweight titleholder Andre Berto has tested positive for steroid norandrosterone, a banned substance.

Ortiz and Berto had agreed to use the Las Vegas-based Voluntary Anti-Doping Association for random blood and urine testing in the lead-up to their fight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles June 23.

According to ESPN.com Showtime is already discussing with Golden Boy Promotions about possible replacement opponent for Victor Ortiz.

This will be the second fighter who has tested positive for banned substance in the past two weeks and it’s the boxing fans that are losing out

  1. Last week I made a comment that I was basicly done with boxing because of the numerous issues involved in the sport. This just adds to the disappointment that boxing has become in general. (Sad) it looks to be the end of boxing as I once knew it. There’s just no aspect of the sport we can trust anymore.

  2. This Really sucks for Victor Ortiz. That guy has got to be chomping at the bit to get back in the ring after the bicep ordeal, and now this. I don’t know the financial details for either guy, but it had to be Berto’s biggest payday down the drain. Stupid.

  3. Berto is a fuckin clown, remember when Ortiz beat him up and he accused Ortiz of using? Now he looks like a bigger idiot. I figure a good solution but that’s probably unavailable would be for Khan to replace Berto but Khan was training for a fight at 140 is the only issue I can think of. However Khan has been training recently and had to stop so he may have gained a bit of weight. I just hope there is a suitable replacement for Ortiz instead of the fight just being canceled.
