Pacquaio-Mayweather is Getting Old

This whole Floyd Mayweather taking on Manny Pacquiao is getting bit annoying. You either make the fight or not. At this point, it’s Pacquiao who’s giving excuses not to fight. Floyd went as far as calling Pacquiao and is showing more than willingness to make this fight happen.

“I called him and asked him about us fighting May 5th and giving the world what they want to see,” Mayweather told ESPN. “I also let him know we both can make a lot of money. He asked about a 50/50 split and I told him no, that can’t happen but what can happen is you can make more money fighting me then you have made in your career. I also let him know I’m in control on my side but he needs to get on the same page with his promoter so we can make this fight happen.”

Here is my take. Pacquiao asking for a 50/50 split is not fair. Lets be honest, Mayweather has generated more PPV numbers than Pacquiao.

Mayweather was guaranteed $25 million when he fought Victor Ortiz that’s not including shares of pay-per-view or sponsors which easily exceeds $40 million.

Mayweather received a guaranteed $22.5 million when he fought Shane Mosley. Manny Pacquiao made $6 Million against Mosley.

Mayweather vs De La Hoya generated over $120 million in revenue. Pacquiao vs De La Hoya generated $70 Million.

Floyd has never made less than 10 Million. The biggest purse Pacquiao ever made was 7.4 million. How does a 50-50 split make sense again?

And on paper Mayweather is undefeated which is priceless. Even taking less percentage, Pacquiao is still being guaranteed the biggest purse he has ever made.

Why not fight Mayweather? Beat him and on the rematch ask for more, Stop being a baby Pacquiao!

Think about this for a second. Who is the only fighter who has given Pacquiao a hard time? Juan Manuel Marquez, right? After 3 fights, Pacquiao hasn’t been able to defeat Marquez with a large margin. Every fight with Marquez ended with a controversy.

Mayweather was out for over 21 month before taking on Marquez and clearly dominated Marquez. Critics will say Marquez was too heavy. Well if the weight was an issue, they shouldn’t have made the fight in the first place.

I guess I to will be afraid to fight a guy who easily beat Marquez, the same guy I couldn’t clearly beat.

If Pacquiao ends up fighting Miguel Cotto for the second time, I will lose all respect for Pacquiao. Really, who wants to see Cotto-Pacquiao 2?

When I think of a rematch is because the first fight was competitive and close. In this case Pacquiao without doubt dominated Cotto so there is no reason for a rematch.

Who’s ducking who?

  1. As much of a Pac fan as I am, I have to say that he looked a little sluggish in his last fight.

Roach no doubt noticed this as well. And as much as I’d like to see Pac kick Fairweather’s
ass into the next decade, I’m frankly not sure he can do it. On the other hand, PBF isn’t getting any younger either. AND – floyd was the one that STARTED all this back and forth, ducking the fight.

Tell you the truth – I think maybe Pac and Roach have concluded that the best way they can get floyd’s goat is to NOT let this fight happen. Then, even if he keeps his precious zero, the question will ALWAYS be hanging over his legacy – could he have beaten Pacman? Maybe
Roach and Pac are playing with floyd’s mind. PBF may be a dickhead, but he’s not TOTALLY stupid (close, though..). He realizes that if this fight isn’t made, that question will haunt him and be a burr under the saddle of his legacy for as long as he lives.

  2. Maywather/Cotto May 5, at least 3 or 4 years too late. Only good thing is Cotto doesn’t have to come down in weight but this fight isn’t what it could have been when Cotto was in his prime.

  3. In the days of Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Hagler, Chavez etc., they fight for the belt and pride. Money is not really the issue. No matter how tough is the opponent they will fight!
Ducking and demanding purse used to be not the issue. Now it become so ridiculous, that someone will demand in every angle that he can think of and then say NO to the fight. In this internet era is even more worse that it is the fans are the ones fighting on the net, specially on youtube!
It would be better for Floyd to rethink his career while he is in jail, a right place for him and Josie and her kids will more safer (for a while).

  4. While I’m a Mayweather fan, I have to disagree with some of your facts. Keep in mind that Floyd is both a boxer and a promoter, so he gets a cut from that as well. I can only imagine that this fight will be his biggest payday as well, but he’s clearly in his right to demand more than 50%. I think the biggest obstacle in this entire debacle has been Arum. Just my opinion.

  5. guys its beyond there primes now so its a joke . floyd was the one who started the BS of not wanting to fight so who cares now at whos doing what . itll never be what it could have. i for one have no interest at all in it. floyds going to the can, pacquiao is probably going to be president and neither will be mentally ready for what should have been a mega fight 2 yrs ago. they are people and when you get as busy as they are now with things that are not boxing related it just ruins them and they will never be what they were .

  6. From what I gather the only real thing holding this fight up is the issue of money. Pac wants 50/50, Floyd wants everything like always (GREEDY). Arums nonsence over the venue wont matter if they can just agree to split things evenly. Like I said before, these ppl are going to make a lot of money no matter what. Honestly more money than they deserve. Mayflower needs to swollow his pride and put his big ass ego aside, because the truth is noone gives a shit about how much money he made in his other fights or about his damb zero. If floyd gets off his ego trip I’m sure Arum will get off his and the fight can be made. Cotto has not agreed to a fight with manny so the fight can still be made. The fight is what it is because they’re both in it not cuz of Floyd alone. Floyds an attraction no doubt but ppl dont buy these fights to see him dance in the ring by himself. One could argue that most of the money thats made from his fights is not from Mayflower fans but from his rivals. Lets be real its not like any of these guys are poor and hurting for dough. I say put the pride & egos aside and make the even split; whats 70 or 80 mil. going to buy that 50 or 60 can’t. Whats more important at this point is the satisfaction of the fans. Because when & if this over rated, over hyped, over estimated, fight finaly happens IT BETTER BE FUCKING WORTH IT!!!!!!. It could be a great fight but it could also be a massive disappointment.

  7. I have to agree with all of your comments!

Real boxing fans know there is a lot more out there but unfortunately, the mainstream media thinks a fight between these two will save the sport.

Boxing has been around and healthy for over 100 years and I predict 100 more!

How does a 50-5- split make sense again?

And the funny thing is that I predict the fight being boring… there will be to much respect and to much holding by Mayweather.

Mayweather is not dumb and he will not brawl with Pacquiao.

  9. Johnny-boy your 100% right; its not a fight to the death match its just another fight. On another note, both of these guys are getting ready to retire and I can see both of them doing exactly that after this fight. Which simply meens that the outcome of this fight meens absolutly nothing in the grand scheme of things in boxing. They will get the biggest paydays of their life at the expence of the fans, put on one of Floyds B/S performances and then run away. Pac will go to congress, Floyd will take his goofy ass to jail and the fans get F–ked once again. Wow there’s some food for thought.

  10. First I got to say, that pic is horrible. The money involved is enough that ppl dont need to fight over it, whether it’s 50/50 or 60/40 it shouldnt matter. Neither one of them has seen this much money so they should just be greatful they are making this stupid amount in the first place. The only thing Floyd has to lose that Manny doesnt is that zero, he knows if he losses that his illusion of perfection is gone and he becomes just another champ.. Everyone should remember that while Floyd was on “vacation” Manny was out there fighting and beating guys Floyd never had the balls to fight (Cotto & Margarito) for example. If you compare resumes I think Mannys is alot more impressive. For some reason ppl act as if Floyds win over Marquez meens he can do the same to Pac, thats just stupid in my opinion. I say its stupid cuz if you want to compare fighters Manny has more impressive wins over opponents they both have in common. Manny KOed Hatton in two rounds TKOed Oscar and dropped Shane and beat Marquez not once but twice if not three times. So if I use those ppls way of thinking Manny should be killing Mayweather in a fight (IT DOESNT MAKE SENCE) ppl. A 50/50 split should not be looked at as being out of the question and Mays win over JMM doesnt meen anything when it comes to him fighting Pac. May & Marquez are both good counter punchers with totally different styles, so ppl cant assume that because one guys style works that the other guys style will work too. Mayweather vs Pacquiao is not getting old it is old.

  11. I agree with you on certain points Edgar, I do believe at this time Arum is the problem if the fight never happens it falls on Pacquiao as well because Pacquiao failed to demand the fight and sits there smiling after each fight saying his promoter makes his decisions. He’s made himself come off as Bob Arum’s puppet. Not to mention Pacquiao has said he’d take less money to make the fight happen now that Mayweather clearly states that Pacquiao has to take less percentage to make it happen this becomes an issue. Arum was fine with having Pacquiao fight May 5 when it was possible that Mayweather was gonna be in jail, that changes so now Pacquiao is recovering from a cut and will not be ready. That quickly changes to a bigger venue then MGM is needed to maximize revenue. (would you expect any less from a money hungry pig like Arum?) However back to Mayweather/Marquez lets not forget Marquez did not have a nutritionist at that time and Mayweather intentially failed to make weight in a fight where he was already the bigger man. Not excuses for Marquez but these are the facts. Mayweather does deserve the bigger share lets not forget ppv numbers are close each time these guys fight but Mayweather has been a star longer than Pacquiao and has generated these numbers longer than him as well. May is also undefeated which means he has more to lose than his belt. However he cant expect every demand he’s thrown out there to be met without having to give in on some things as well. At the end of the day this has become worse than your daytime talk shows because thats all it’s been is talk and finger pointing, it’s not a fight to the death, it’s not winner take all it’s a fuckin fight that will make both men A LOT of money, get in there and do it or shut the hell up and retire.
