Thompson Boxing Promotions did it again and put together an exciting night of boxing at the Omega Products International in Corona, California on Friday night titled “New Blood V” featuring unbeaten lightweight Daniel “El Travieso” Hernandez (7-0, 4 KO) who won a unanimous decision over veteran fighter Jovann Jones (9-6, 4KO) of San Diego, CA.

The unbeaten lightweight prospect Daniel Hernandez was cautious from the opening bell as Jones kept active but it was Hernandez who landed the heavy blows when fired. By the second round, the young prospect from South Gate, CA, landed an over hand left that dazed Jones, being the veteran fighter Jones quickly recovered to end the round.

Hernandez stepped up the pressure in round three but Jones spent more time on the retreat from the heavy punch output. The crowd began to cheer for Hernandez in hopes to keep the action going. Right hooks followed by quick lefts to the ribs gave Jones no alternative but to hold and clinch.

Hernandez kept Jones at a distance with his piston like left jabs which allowed Hernandez to cruise MBF2_NewBlood5thru the fourth and fifth rounds knowing the victory was well in hand, Hernandez easily moved and boxed his way until the final bell of the schedule six winning a unanimous decision. Scores were 58-56 and 60-54 twice.

The co-main event featured another upcoming light middleweight prospect, Alberto Herrera 3-0 2KO’s from Riverside, CA as he faced Steven Macomber 3-5-1 from San Diego, CA.

The action began right from the opening bell as both began trading in the corner with heavy blows. Macomber slowly began to step back as Herrera started to dominate and take command of the brawl.  Macomber went right back on the attack but was no match as he kept being out numbered by the uppercuts and quick jabs Herrera kept landing. Alberto Herrera won a lopsided unanimous decision.

Thomas Barragan of Coachella, CA (8-2-1) won a unanimous decision as he outworked Alvaro Muro (5-18, 5KO’s) in a six round lightweight battle. Scores where 60-54, 60-54 and 58-56.

In a 4 round lightweight battle, featuring Christopher Rizo (4-0-1 2KOs) of Los Angeles, CA and Marlo Cortez (2-7-3 1KO) ended in a draw.

MBF1_NewBlood5Rizo won the opening round with some nice combinations while Cortez started slow, jabbing to Marlo’s body. Round two was closer and both fighters landed hard left hooks. Both fighters were successful in round three and in the fourth Rizo continued his 1-2 combinations as Cortez didn’t stop firing away. Scores were 37-39, 39-37 and 38-38.

Keith Kelly (0-2) from Great Falls, MT, added another loss to his ledger after getting hit with an amazing body shot. The referee waived it off at 1:07 of round one; Kevin Hoskins of Moreno Valley, CA won his pro debut.
