Earlier this week Top Rank CEO Bob Arum was quoted by BoxingScene.com’s Michael Marley as essentially saying that former three-division world champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39KOs) told him [Arum] that he is a free agent.

“Mosley is operating independently of Golden Boy,” Arum stated to Marley.

Apparently dissension has been escalating between the future hall of famer and Golden Boy Promotions, who promote Mosley, and where Mosley is also a partner. The story reports that Mosley retains his stock in Golden Boy.

Arum also said, “Mosley told me it’s up to him who he fights now; it’s his decision.”

Mosley has already been making changes around him in hiring rap mogul James Prince as his new adviser. “I am very happy to be working with James. I know that working together will present me with a lot of great opportunities,” said Shane when the announcement was made.

One source stated, “Golden Boy can’t get Shane the fights that he wants.”

The 38-year-old Mosley wants to secure a few more big pay days with the likes of Pacquiao, or rematches with Margarito and Cotto. Mosley has been rumored as a possible opponent for Manny Pacquiao after Pacman’s November 13th showdown with Antonio “Tijuana Tornado” Margarito this Saturday on HBO PPV, should negotiations with Floyd “Money” Mayweather fail again.

When Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer was asked about the Mosley situation he declined to comment and say’s he’s waiting for a return phone call from Mosley to talk about it.

“I have a call into Shane and I haven’t heard from him yet. That is all I really want to say at this point,” said Schaefer.
