During a conference call with Top Rank’s CEO Bob Arum, it was announced Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will not be fighting on Saturday, Dec 4th at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. Chavez was working out at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card gym in Hollywood, Calif., yesterday, however this morning Chavez woke up with a high fever therefore Top Rank made the decision to scratch him out.

With only 4,500- 5,000 tickets sold, the rest of the card will go on as scheduled on Pay-Per-View. Pawel Wolak has arrived into Los Angeles and has to move to the undercard to fight Jose Pinzon and Nonito Donaire and former bantamweight titlist Wladimir Sidorenko move up the main event. Humberto Soto will defend his belt against Urbano Antillon as the co-main event.

“I’m not going to cancel the show,” Arum said. “Anyone who wants a refund at the gate can get a refund. But you can’t cancel the show and do that to the kids who were getting ready to fight for the past six or eight weeks. You have an obligation if you can to follow through on the card.”

Bob Arum ended the conference call by saying, “there will be good food on tomorrow’s final press conference at the Millenium Biltmore Hotel,” and hopes the media will attend considering Chavez won’t be fighting… No comment!

  1. He doesn’t have a fever…… It’s bullshit…don’t get me wrong I like him but , he needs to start fighting some real fighters…….. And stop giving excuses…

  2. Well… I’m not sure I can buy this…. “excuse”? I’ve been around this game LONG and UP CLOSE enough to have seen PLENTY “official” reports from fighter’s PERSONAL doctor in the past. It’s much like paying 10 buck$ for a doctors excuse to take to your boss. Ever since Alfonso Gomez pulled out I have been waiting for this to happen if in fact Wolak was “the chosen one”, much like I already said on a couple of My Boing Fans” articles related non-fight. Well.. Wolak WAS chosen and Chavez DID pull out.

I sensed that they didn’t want Wolak months ago, when he was being mentioned as a possible candidate for this “ppv” even BEFORE Alfonso Gomez was chosen.

Flu?? Fever?? hmmm… I bet that if they picked another “cream puff’ he would’ve probably fought. But even then, fighting another “puff” would harm Chavez’ credibility even more.

Oh well…. “wait til next year”.
