The BIG Fight

In his recent move to heavyweight, Tomasz Adamek (41(27)-1) made a lasting impression on the boxing community when he went to war with Cris Arreola. Adamek beautifully executed his game plan, showed off his chin against the hard punching Arreola and left California with the majority decision.

Who is Adamek fighting? Wouldn’t the win against Arreola set Adamek up for a title shot? Main Events, which has brilliantly managed the careers of dozens of fighters (including Adamek) made a wise choice by putting Michael Grant (46(34)-3) in front of Adamek.

Although Adamek would be a formidable opponent for a Klitschko, not only would he be fighting one of the best fighters he has ever faced, but also the tallest. Michael Grant, a former contender who has fought some of the greatest heavyweights in the past decade, including Lennox Lewis, remained active and has not lost since 2003.

Grant stands at 6’7” with an 86 inch reach. His nickname is “Big.” The size of this man is a threat, regardless that he has not fought an elite fighter in several years. Expect him to weigh in at a strong, muscular 250 plus pounds.

Adamek is by the far the most talented Grant has fought in recent years. He is also a heavyweight that has won championships at lighter weight classes including light heavyweight and cruiserweight. At about 6’2” and fighting around 220 pounds, Adamek uses his skill and ring smarts to make up for any height and weight difference that may favor his opponent. Now fighting at his natural weight, Adamek is here to prove that he is a true heavyweight threat, regardless of height and weight.

Adamek-Grant will prove to be an incredible heavyweight match-up. Will we see an upset and the new life of a former contender, or the full transition and skills of a new heavyweight fighter? For both men, this is a big fight.

On August 21st, Adamek will be fighting at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Brick City Boxing promoted by Main Events, which has featured their star fighter several times, has proven to draw a huge crowd and always has an exciting atmosphere and night of fights. Tickets go on sale Thursday (July 1st) at 11 AM.

  1. I agree with myboxingfan. Some people still regard Adamek as a blown up cruiserweight. I personally welcome anything promising into the division. Since Vitali Klitschko plans to retire this year, Adamek should be allowed to fight for the vacated title.

  2. Adamek is a promising star on this weight class. I’m sure he’ll get a W on this fight.

With regards to fighting the Klitschko’s, I think he has the skills and he’s not afraid to face any of them. 😀
