The absolute WBC lightweight champion Edwin Valero (26-0, 26KO) of Venezuela closed out his 51st round of sparring yesterday for his next bout against Antonio DeMarco (23-1-1, 17KO) on February 6th at the Monterrey Arena in Monterrey, MX.

This will be the second time Valero defends the title he captured last year by stopping Antonio Pitalua in the second round in Houston, TX. After capturing the interim version of the title last October, DeMarco will be challenging for a full-fledged title for the first time in his career.

“I am working very hard like I always do in the gym so I can leave with my hand raised,” Valero stated regarding his next bout. “DeMarco is a young boxer, with hunger and that makes him dangerous.”

“DeMarco has said that he is not intimidated but he is concious of the power I have in either fist, my speed and he will be thinking about that when he feels my first punch,” Valero said.

Recently, DeMarco has stated that he felt that his sparring partners were better technically than Valero which the KO artist only responded with “I talk in the ring.”

“I feel very good, we are working speed and power,” Valero explained. “We also have to remember that after my fight in December, I only rested for a week so I have been training for about five months.”
