The Golden Boy states that he is confused. He does not understand what one of his charges, Juan Manuel Marquez wants. Juan Manuel has not accepted the opponents that Golden Boy Promotions has offered him including refusing an opponent that would give him the opportunity to fight for a fourth divisional title, a feat that no Mexican fighter has been able to achieve.
Marquez was offered a bout versus Amir Khan of England who holds the WBA jr. welterweight title and possible a pay day of over 2 million dollars. Now Khan will defend his title against Paulie Malignaggi.
“The truth is that I don’t know what is going on with Juan Manuel. I am little confused because the fight I offered him against Amir Khan was a great fight and a historic one,” De La Hoya stated. “I think he can knock out Amir because Khan is green, he is too young. It was a great opportunity and he decided not to take it. We need to talk to Juan Manuel face to face and see what he wants.”
