From Tuscon, AZ, at the Casino del Sol, Don Chargin Productions in association with Golden Boy Promotions, Jorge Marron Productions and Tecate Cerveza Con Caracter, presented “Solo Boxeo Tecate.” In the main event, WBO NABO Youth lightweight champion Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (19-0-1, 9KOs) defeated Genaro Trazancos (22-12-1, 13KOs) by 7th round knockout.

Preceding the main event, ring announcer Joe Martinez, honored legendary promoter Lorraine Chargin who recently lost her battle with cancer with an honorary 10-count.

After Michael “Little Warrior” Franco, who was originally scheduled to face Adolfo “El Terror” Landeros in the the main event, was forced to withdraw due to a torn retina, Mercito Gesta took full advantage of his upgraded status to main event.

The fight was fought at an average pace which was good for the Cebu City native as he was able to get some needed rounds under his belt moving forward towards top competition. Gesta won all the rounds with a good mixture of jabs, straight lefts, right hooks and uppercuts to the body and head.

Mercito dominated the fight with controlled aggression and hit Trazancos numerous times with hard combinations that got the attention of the Mexican pugilist. Gesta got a hit few times with clean punches to the head while holding his left-hand low (like a hard right-hand up top in the 2nd) but walked through all of them. Gesta shows the retaliation spirit of fighters like Juan Manuel Marquez, Erik Morales and fellow countryman Manny Pacquiao in the sense that when Gesta is hit, he comes back full force with hard combinations, not allowing his competitor to gain confidence with success.

Mercito ended the contest when he landed a straight left bomb upstairs that floored and disconnected Trazcanos’ legs from his brain as the back of his head bounced off the canvas prompting referee Tony Zaino to wave off the fight at 0:53 of the 7th round, rewarding Gesta with a sensational knockout victory.

With the win, Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta remains undefeated improving to 19-0-1, 9KOs, while making a strong case that he is ready to take the next step to elite level competition. Gesta looks as if he is the real deal prepared to make his mark on the sport.

In the co-main event, Adolfo “El Terror” Landeros (19-15-1, 9KOs), who was scheduled to fight Michael Franco in the main event until Franco was forced to withdraw, dropped an 8-round unanimous decision loss to Noe “El Chamaco” Lopez Jr. (6-5, 4KOs).

“El Chamaco” set the tone for the fight from the outset landing hard combinations consisting of straight lefts and right hooks to the head and body. Lopez Jr. dropped Landeros at the end of the 2nd round with a stiff straight left to the jaw and dominated Adolfo for the duration of the contest with punishing blows, blazing a path to victory while improving to 6-5, 4KOs.

  1. Mercito’s victory was ok. Congratulations. But I was not really impressed.
More practice, brother. You were very slow and lacked movements. Study well the style of your fellow left-hander Manny Pacquiao. You are young. Plenty of time to further you skills.
