Robert Guerrero seeks prayers from the boxing community

Robert Guerrero, scheduled to face interim lightweight titlist Michael Katsidis on March 27, withdrew from the fight on Monday because his wife is seriously ill.

The Jr. Lightweight titlist, Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (25-1-1, 17 KO’s) is seeking prayer from the boxing community for his wife Casey, who is battling Leukemia. A bone marrow transplant procedure was required to keep her chances of living ongoing and every day is a battle for her life.

“Right now I’m going through a difficult time dealing with my wife Casey’s illness with Leukemia.” stated Guerrero, “Fortunately we found a bone marrow match, but there are some complications that are making things difficult. I’m asking everyone in the boxing community along with family, friends and the general public to keep Casey in their prayers. I will continue to keep my faith in Jesus Christ and pray for understanding.”

“The Ghost” was looking forward to a potential fight with Michael Katsidis on March 27th, but due to his wife’s condition, he will remain by her side. Guerrero went on to say, “I want to thank my promoter Golden Boy Promotions for their understanding in this situation. I was ready to do battle with Katsidis but mentally my mind wouldn’t be at 100%, and to fight a warrior like him you have to be at your best psychologically.”

  1. This has been a very touching story! I have been from website to website looking for a place to comment. I would like to post a link on Facebook to see if maybe some more good comes from there. I wish I were able to do more, I am a single mother and struggle myself. Casey, I’m so glad you were able to get the transplant, you are a very strong woman! Mr.Guerrero, WOW… your wife is now the envy of many women to have such an amazing husband! You have a beautiful family, GOD BLESS!!!

  2. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Guerrrero and his wife. Just after the Jason Litzau fight my family and I ran into Mr. Guerrero and his family at Disneyland. I was struck by how gentle his eyes were, he was very engaging and approachable. I remember telling him I was on the fence during the fight as to who I was rooting for. Even though he has not fought much since then, I will root for him regardless of his opponent. I have a magazine picture in my garage, when I train he inspires me. Mr. Guerrero if you read this please keep your head up and stay strong, if you never fight again in the ring I will still be a fan of yours.

  3. My prayers for Casey, may the bone marrow transplant be successful and return her to a healthy normal life.
