This weekend we see the return of Allen Green. Yawn. Kimbo Slice will also debut as a boxing heavyweight on the same card. Had Kimbo not failed in MMA, nor taken such a long break between fighting careers, there may have been more interest in his debut. From internet fighting champ, to fallen MMA opponent, to a debuting boxer, Kimbo has plenty of fight experience. And so far, the opinion is that he should’ve stayed an internet star. I wish him luck in his boxing endeavors but it will be a few years and several wins until anyone can take him seriously. I’m interested to see where it goes, but I truly believe that if he makes it to the stage of fighting true boxers and not human punch absorbers we will see him again struggle with fighting in a legit sport.

Besides the Mares-Agbeko clash, for some other true, exciting boxing this weekend, check out Teon Kennedy fight Alejandro Lopez in Atlantic City. Teon is an exciting junior feather who has been guided by Russell Peltz (Mike Jones’ promoter). Peltz teamed up with Bob Arum to bring Jones to a bigger stage. Accomplished. Kennedy is now following a similar path. Look out for this great Philly fighter soon.

Kermit Cintron returns in an ESPN headline fight against Antwone Smith. This is do or die for Cintron. I give him credit for getting right back in the ring, in a headliner spot, right after the tough loss to Carlos Molina, but this is a fight that will very likely determine the future of Cintron. An impressive win, Cintron is back as a contender. A plain old win, many will write Cintron off. A loss, Cintron does not want to think about a loss. With an impressive win, a Cintron-Joel Julio fight would entertain all. A win after that, test James Kirkland’s chin and a win will put him in line to get knocked out by any top dog. Cintron has the ability to be a top contender and title challenger, but I do not see a title in his future.
