no10Jose “Pegueño” Mendoza is excited for the huge opportunity that he has been presented with on May 23rd when in Monterrey, MX, he faces the former two time champion Rafael Marquez on the undercard of Jhonny Gonzalez challenge of Toshiaki Nishioka for the WBC super bantamweight title.

With a record of 21-2-2, 17KO, Mendoza is hard at work preparing for the biggest bout of his career.

“I know that I am going against a giant in boxing, Marquez has proved that he is a fighter with a big heart and courageous at any moment, the trilogy he fought in with Israel Vazquez is one of the best in the sport’s history but I still think that I can beat him,” the 37 year old fighter stated.

“A win over Marquez will be the greatest thing that could happen to me, I am a fighter with a lot of technique, good condition and power. Life has taught me that nothing is impossible and that boxing is full of great surprises,” he stated confidently.

As far as if he believes that Marquez might not be the same after the great trilogy against Vazquez, the Colombian Mendoza added:

“It could be, those fights were blood baths and almost criminal at it wouldn’t surprise me that there would be effects from them. But I am not focusing on that, I am training to do what I need to do so I can have my hand raised.”
