Golden Boy Promotions’ President Oscar De La Hoya has come out publicly to announce that he believes Juan Manuel Marquez will defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their PPV bout on July 18th.
“I think that Juan Manuel Marquez is going to win with his jab and because of his condition. Besides, Mayweather doesn’t have any power and I think that with the way that Marquez throws his combinations, he will be able to defeat him,” De La Hoya stated.
In the first six rounds of our bout, I was dominating Mayweather easily with my jab. Marquez must do that and I know that he is going to do it with more aggression,” De La Hoya continued. “Marquez is easily the best counter puncher in the world and he has power. He demonstrated it against Casamayor and Juan Diaz who happens to be younger than him. I think that the fact that Mayweather hasn’t fought in two years is going to help.”
De La Hoya commented that he has offered advice to Marquez in how to fight the former pound for pound king. The “Golden Boy” mentioned to Marquez that he needs to look out for the jab to the body since Mayweather utilizes that punch as a faint for much more lethal combinations.

Haha! I agree w/u Brian Brown, Oscar did not utilize 1 single JAB @ all. He sounds like a hypocrite! How are u gonna try and give advice to someone about a technique when u urself did not follow ur own strategy? And as far as saying JMM will use his aggression against Floyd, did we not watch Floyd’s last bout against Hatton when he put him 2 sleep w/the check left hook! Floyd is going 2 win simply because he is a more precise, and a better defensive boxer. No to mention he is more patient and capitalizes off of his opponents mistakes. No1 can afford 2 slugg it out w/Floyd because they will end kissn the canvas good night. My advise 2 JMM is to just try and BOX w/Floyd and u MIGHT have a SLIGHT chance of coming away w/a victory!
Yea he didnt throw a jab how he usually does but he is rite the jab throws off Floyd and marquez does not need no advice he is easily the smartest fighter in the sport and its gonna be a great fight!! Now me i think marquez has a better chance of wining especially if the fight goes on pass round 6 which it will since floyd does not have enough power to hurt JMM good chin (keep inmind i said good chin not great). And JMM is a adjusted fighter. he will slug it out with u if he wants or stay on the counter which he loves. He also has pretty good speed, and alot of skillz!! that being said i give it to floyd i agree with oscar but not about his fight with him thou im sorry he didnt hurt u at all oscar but he out boxed u alot!!
I’m sorry! Dela Hoya!……I can respect you for all your accomplishments in the ring. But I think your going a little bit too far. I wouldn’t be giving any advise to a fighter especially toward the one you lost too. What jab are we talking about. Didn’t see you use hardly any against Mayweather are you sure we know what we are talking about. Maybe we should watch the fight again……LOL Hey Folks…..What in the world is he talking about.
