Cintron Matthysse BoxingThe boricua Kermit Cintron is the odds favorite in Las Vegas to defeat his next adversary Alfredo “Perro” Angulo on May 30th in Hollywood, Florida.

Many ringside critics are looking forward to match up between two knock out artists.

Angulo who is already considered one of the best new prospects in boxing is looking for a title oportunity in either the welter or super welterweight divisions.

Cintron is as of print time the favorite in the betting odds based on his edge in experience. The Puerto Rican has a record of 30 wins, 27 via KO, two losses and one draw and is 29 years old. Cintron has been the IBF welterweight champion twice and defended the title three times until losing the last time to Antonio Margarito.

Angulo has half of the experience of his opponent with 15 professional fights, all wins and 12 by KO. The bout will be presented at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel.

  1. I think this should be an interesting bout and a good test for both– each of whom I respect. I make no bones about being a Cintron fan and wanting him to get back into the title mix, but I think James’ point about pressure fighters is fair. By the same token, Angulo gets hit a lot— and I’m not sure he’s ever been hit by a guy with Kerm’s power (at least at 147). So I have to like Kerm’s chances in this match up too.

Also think its a bit premature to relegate Cintron to a career “downside” when it still a fact that he’s only lost to Margarito (and his enhanced plaster wraps?) . I would like to see tangible improvement in skills in this third fight under Ronnie Shields, however, and Angulo’s easy to hit style may be tailored made for Kerm’s big hitting bombs.

But for the one (now infamous) shot that Kerm walked into, Martinez stayed at too a safe distance in their less then entertaining bout (which Kerm didn’t seem to have an answer for)— so I don’t think that showed anything as to whether Kerm’s power isn’t as potent at 154. I don’t think Angulo will be running away like Sergio, so this will be a fair test for Cintron at 154.

The tired Cintron has “no heart” and is a “quitter” refrain is typical hater BS. Like I said before, I have respect for both guys and think this should have some fireworks for however long it goes.

To me the advantage in this fight may boil down to the answer to this final question: does Angulo have Margarito’s granite chin? If not, I have to give the advantage to Cintron.

  2. When Cintron got knocked down by that Argentino last time, he said after the fight that it wasn’t a punch. That nobody hits that hard. Well if he thinks a guy with 27KOs in 47 fights hits hard, wait till he feels a real big punchers punch when he faces Angulo. his power didnt transfer over either when he moved up in weight so I dont know why hes the favorite. Angulo by KO. Cintron has no heart. He quits when hes in trouble.

  3. Angulos style will bother cintron he cant handle body shots thats what angulo does best angulo by KO

  4. Pressure fighters bother Cintron and Angulo is just that. I think Angulo will be tested but he will beat Cintron who is on the downside of his career.
