According to the newspaper Listin, the interim WBA jr. welterweight champion Marcos Maidana of Argentina might be defending his title against the two time world champion Joan Guzman of the Dominican Republic later this year.
Both fighters are coming off victories this past Saturday night in Las Vegas, NV. Guzman was awarded a split decision over Ali Funeka while Maidano stopped Victor Cayo in six rounds.
“That is what is coming, we hadn’t announced anything in case Cayo won,’ Eric Gomez, matchmaker of Golden Boy Promotions, stated. “Now that the road is clear, Guzman deserves a fight against Maidana, since Saturday people have been asking for the fight.”
