box_g_evalero_200By Gabriel F. Cordero: Unbeaten Venezuelan superstar Edwin Valero could soon be an official member of the elite Top Rank stable of fighters. Sources report that a promotional pact would kick in after Valero’s showdown with Colombian Antonio Pitalua for the WBC interim lightweight belt. Valero-Pitalua is expected to take place in March, possibly in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo and be available on U.S. television. One of the more interesting fighters in the sport, Valero opened his career with 18 consecutive first round knockouts and has compiled an unblemished career mark of 24-0 with all wins coming by knockout. He held the WBA super featherweight world title and defended it four times before vacating that belt and moving up to lightweight. Valero is also considered to be a viable opponent for Manny Pacquiao.
