Robert Guerrero Suffers a Shoulder injury, Maridana Fight off

Robert Guerrero suffered a left shoulder injury during sparring in Big Bear, forcing him to withdraw from his August 27 fight against junior welterweight slugger Marcos Maidana.

“Robert Guerrero injured his shoulder [Wednesday] in sparring to the point where it was numb,” said Golden Boy promoter Richard Schaefer during a teleconference call. “He couldn’t move it at all. It was numb. They were hoping it would get better overnight. It did not. He can’t move the arm at all, can’t put on a jacket.”

Schaefer said the entire “Boxing After Dark” card at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., has been called off. Guerrero is schedule to have an MRI and there hoping is not a torn rotator cuff.
“The news caught us cold, I couldn’t believe it. However, I’ve told Golden Boy Promotions that I’m willing to fight on Aug. 27 whoever they put in front of me. My team and I made a huge effort by having a 12-week training camp and we don’t want to throw that away,” Marcos Maidana said after getting the news. “I am 100% ready to fight. I wish good luck to Guerrero but I’m in fighting mode at this time. I need to get in the ring. I trust GBP would get me the fight,” added Maidana.

Schaefer said there saddened by the news and there going to reschedule for a later date. Though Marcos Maidana wants to fight Schaefer said “Maidana obviously wants to fight, but on a week’s notice it is impossible to find a suitable opponent on such short notice.”
