They share the same last name and the same ambition to be the best junior welterweight in the world. But when Josesito Lopez and Patrick Lopez meet in the main event of Thompson Boxing Promotions’ latest action-packed card this Friday, April 17th at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California, only one Lopez will move forward in one of boxing’s most competitive divisions.
“Lopez vs Lopez“, a five-bout card of hard-hitting professional boxing action presented by Thompson Boxing Promotions in association with Fox Sports Español, will take place at the Doubletree Hotel Ontario, which is located at 222 N. Winner of seven of his last eight bouts, with the only loss being a disputed 10 round decision loss to Edgar Santana, a bout in which he dropped Santana twice, Josesito Lopez (23-3, 14 KOs) is one of Southern California’s most popular fighters, and with good reason. Fresh off a second round knockout of Alex Perez last November, the 24-year old Riverside native is kicking off 2009 with a tough bout against Venezuela’s Patrick “El Elegante” Lopez (15-1, 10 KOs). A two-time Olympian, Patrick is currently riding a four fight winning streak, and on April 17th, the southpaw is looking to make it five in a row in Ontario.
In the co-feature, Doubletree favorite Mauricio “El Maestro” Herrera (9-0, 4 KOs) makes his fourth straight appearance (sixth overall) at the venue in an eight round welterweight bout against Puerto Rican knockout artist William “Chino” Correa (8-2, 8 KOs).
Keeping with the “Lopez” theme of the evening, La Puente’s Abraham Lopez 6-0 (5 KOs) will put his perfect record on the line against Puerto Rican David Lorenzana (4-4-1, 2 KOs) in a six round featherweight bout.
In lightweight action scheduled for four rounds, unbeaten Carson product Danny Hernandez (4-0, 3 KOs) takes on Hesperia’s Kadaphi Proctor (4-2-1), and in the four round opener, Rancho Cucamonga’s welterweight Erick Garcia (3-0, 1 KO) battles Los Angeles’ southpaw Ricky Duenas (0-1).
