New Jersey Athletic Control Board commissioner Aaron Davis has pulled the plug on Saturday’s scheduled fight between Hector Camacho Sr. and Yory Boy Campas at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City. The bout was to have been presented on pay-per-view. “Hector was a legendary fighter who will also go down as one of the most flamboyant fighters in the sport. It is with the utmost respect for him that I have declined to approve the fight,” New Jersey Athletic Control Board commissioner Aaron Davis told the Press of Atlantic City.
Manny Pacquiao is heading home for a hero’s welcome in the Philippines. Pacquiao and his wife Jinky, and Team Pacquiao will depart from Los Angeles on Wednesday. Pacquiao will return to the USA in June, first at the Boxing Writer Association of America awards dinner in New York City on Friday, June 12. Pacquiao will receive the 2008 ‘Fighter of the Year’ award and chief trainer Freddie Roach will be honored as the ‘Trainer of the Year.’ The next night Pacquiao will be at ringside to watch the Miguel Cotto vs. Joshua Clottey world welterweight title fight at Madison Square Garden.
