Fight fans in Southern California, get ready to rumble as the Timothy Bradley vs. Jessie Vargas championship bout was officially announced today at the Conga Room at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles.

The Top Rank fighters were flanked by their respective teams including Bradley’s trainer Joel Diaz and Vargas’ coach Roy Jones Jr. Famed promoter Bob Arum was also in attendance as he promised the boxing fans a great matchup on June 27 at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. Arum announced that this clash will be for the WBO welterweight title. The fight will air live on HBO and tickets go on sale tomorrow (May 19).

It will be former world champ “Desert Storm” Bradley against Las Vegas star and unbeaten WBA titlist Vargas in this collision taking place next month.

This matchup also got the attention of some local pro fighters who wanted to come out and support this upcoming battle. I caught up with boxers Ray Beltran, Seniesa Estrada and Daniel “El Chapulin” Valdivia during the presser and all said they’re looking forward to this Bradley-Vargas scrap.

Bradley’s record is 31-1-1 with 12 knockouts and Vargas’ is a perfect 26-0 with 9 KOs. The younger Vargas knows he is going in as the underdog against the tough Bradley. But Jessie says he is up for the challenge. See below for my chat with Jessie Vargas, current being trained by former champion Roy Jones Jr. After Vargas “saved” me from being crushed in the swarm of media trying to get to the prizefighters, I had a chance to hear his thoughts on his upcoming fight for another title.

Vargas says he’ll “dig deep” to get the win…and if you want to make some money, bet on him!

“I’m always the underdog!” he says with a smile. “There’s not one fight where they give me the edge.”

The 26-year-old Vegas fighter confirms he isn’t worried about being the dog in this contest. In fact, he even has plans on how to be even more lucrative in this fight.

“They just won’t give me the credit,” he adds about his underdog status. “It’s okay…I’ll make some more money, I’ll bet on me!

Be sure to catch Bradley-Vargas June 27 on HBO and live at the StubHub Center in the City of Carson.
