Mayweather Jr’s adviser Leonard Ellerbe has announced that Floyd Mayweather Jr will fight on May 5, 2012, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather’s opponent has not been determined but Ellerbe said, “We’re looking to make the biggest fight possible and everyone knows what that fight is, the little fella.”

Ellerbe is referring to Manny Pacquiao. Now before you get your panties in a bunch, Mayweather vs Pacquioa will not happen on May 5. Why you ask? Manny Pacquiao is set to tangle with Juan Manuel Marquez for the third time Nov. 12.

Do you really think Manny Pacquiao will be ready in 6 months? What if Pacquiao gets cut during his fight with Marquez? Which is very possible considering Marquez is no walk in the park. Bob Arums has said multiple times he will not allow it, Mayweather is currently using Golden boy licenses which means Golden boy will be involve and Golden Boy working with Top Rank wont happen.

Do I believe Mayweather will fight in May? Of course, he loves to fight on Cinco de Mayo weekend. May is traditionally a weekend for a major pay-per-view fight. He fought Oscar De La Hoya on May 5, 2007, Shane Mosley in May of 2010 and 4 other fights in May.

The question does remain who can Mayweather (42-0, 26 KOs), who turns 35 in February will fight?

And that’s a good questions I can’t answer just yet.

  1. FLOYD MAYWEATHER VS. MANNY PACQUIAO on May 5, 2012……..THE BLUFF OF THE CENTURY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!by chickenweather.

  2. Little fella who? Pacquiao camp already denied any knowledge about such thing. Ivan Calderon? Rey Boom Boom Bautista? who?????????

  3. I think 6 months should be enough time aswell Jesus as long as Manny doesnt get any nasty cuts, and I agree that it shouldnt matter if GBP is involved. I think it would be a good opportunity for Top Rank and Golden Boy to put together some great undercards. Lord only knows how much these leeches will charge for this fight so the fans deserve to get their moneys worth. They should put something special together for this one if it happens. The only ppl that should worry about losing that night should be the fighters not the fans. Because if this fight happens cuz its still a big “IF” and the fans get robbed on this fight they will shit all over boxing.

  4. I think its either a publicity stunt or he’s trying to rush Pacquiao into the fight. Floyds not fooling anyone, if he really wanted to fight he would wait untill pacmans fight was over and then set a date both camps can agree on. Mayflower knows that pacmans fight could be nasty if there’s no early K.O.. There is no way that Bob Arum or Freddie Roach will let Manny be rushed into this fight & Floyd knows this. So if Top Rank says no Floyd will start talking out of his ass to say that Manny doesnt want to fight which we all know is B/S. If Floyd really intends to fight Manny I,m pretty sure it’s because he plans to retire soon after Win or lose. He would’nt have the heart to stay in boxing after this. I say this cuz if Floyd wins he will like he always has consider himself the greatest of all time which he will really never be, if he loses he will run away from boxing like the spoiled brat he is. I truly dont believe Floyd could come back from a loss it would be to big of a blow to his ego. Plus he would be too scared to get knocked out again lol, and of course if he was to fight Pacman no fans would ever pay to see him fight any fighter thats not an elite. So like I said before Floyds running out options fast! His success has painted him into a corner and he has no choice but to fight the best or watch his marketability go down the drain along with his ppv sale and his beloved money. All we can do is hope that Manny knocks Marquez out quick and doesnt get to beat up.

  5. Mayweather offered Victor Ortiz a rematch during the post fight interview. Personally, I don’t want to see that rematch. First fight was one sided in Mayweather’s favor all the way through. Don’t need to see that again. Anyway, with the revenue a Pacquiao vs Mayweather could bring, Arum needs to some how “work” with GBP and get this done. It’s a win-win for all involved. Well except for the people who will buy the PPV. May 5 is not out of the question regardless of what happens on Nov 12.
