Current WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez recently stated that he is willing and able to face WBO super bantamweight champion Jorge “Travieso” Arce but in his words, “I think he already backed out.”
“‘Travieso’ has challenged me man times but all of a sudden he went quiet,” Gonzalez said. “It seems that after he saw me knock out Roger Mtagwa in two rounds, he gave me more respect but if he wants to, let them pay me and we’ll fight.”
The veteran Gonzalez is well aware that the fight between two champions would be a sought after one by the broadcasting networks, “This fight would be big, I think it would sell very well in the United States. If we are going to face each other in a battle between champions, I think we should be well compensated. I would accept it if they would offer me one million dollars. If the promoters and the television channels are going to make money, then the boxers should as well.”
Gonzalez also mentioned that he will defend his title in November in Mexico City’s Sports Palace. As far as his opponent, Gonzalez stated, “There are talks that it might be Elio Rojas as soon as he fixes his problems with his Don King or it might be Roinet Caballero of Panama.”
“I feel very well in this weight. I eat well and after training, I feel strong,” he added. “I didn’t really feel that when I would fight at bantamweight and super bantamweight. In those weight classes I would really sacrifice myself.”
Arce just recently came up to bantamweight. I don’t think it’s in his best interest to jump up another weight class. I don’t think Jhonny can make bantamweight and be as good as he is now. Anyway, good luck getting your million dollars Jhonny.
Gonzalez has now joined the Bradley/Pavlik “I want more than i’m worth” club. Another fighter I like pulling this kind of crap is upsetting as I would like to see Arce/Gonzalez. Anyway I think Arce would K.O. him inside of 8 rounds but I see an all action fight as long as it lasts.
I hope Travieso beats his a– and makes him earn that 10,000 he is going to get!
