Erik Morales vs Fransico Lorenzo

The new opponent for Erik Morales on Saturday in Tijuana is Dominican Francisco Lorenzo (35-8, 16 KOs), whose credentials include wins over world title holders Humberto Soto, Nate Campbell and Cristobal Cruz (twice). He fought Jorge Linares to a majority decision earlier this year in Linares’ native Venezuela earlier this year.

Morales, 34, a former junior featherweight, featherweight and junior lightweight champion, has designs on becoming the first Mexican fighter to win world titles in four weight classes. He and Golden Boy have talked about him eventually returning to the 135-pound lightweight division to face champion Juan Manuel Marquez. Exclusive video coming soon.

  1. In reference to Erik’s new opponent in this jrWELTERWEIGHT fight, well… Giovanni Lorenzo’s most recent fight TWO months ago was in the super-FEATHERWEIGHT division, the weight class he’s been fighting in EXCLUSIVELY for quite a while. PLUS… the fact that Lorenzo is “only’ 39 years old.

If he’s expected to give Morales a tough night then what does tell us about Erik?? How serious are we to take it IF Morales wins??

Allow me to add that I’m not expecting an impressive performance from Erik, a jrWELTER fighting a superFEATHERWEIGHT, a THIRTY NINE year old superFEATHERWEIGHT. I hope like heck that somehow I’m wrong.

  2. That seems like a solid replacement for the Morales fight. Not sure if he can compete with Marquez, Morales is kinda shot already but idk what it is but when two Mexican Warriors go at it, the fight always turns out to be better then expected but in this case I say Marquez takes him out in 8 not viscously but a stoppage i’m sure. Hopkins will only get it done by a boring sloppy decision which the good thing about that is their in Pascal’s backyard where the likeliness of a Hopkins decision is low so maybe he will actually fight a good convincing fight. Mayweather….forget about it, Can’t wait to see Martinez box again, im sure it will be entertaining.
