Manny Pacquiao is more than one of the greatest fighters of this era. He is a great man, a class act in which many should look up to. Pacquiao, who just defeated Antonio Margarito ended the evening with very classy and respectable post fight comments.

Margarito, who was rushed to the hospital due to cuts, swelling and a broken orbital bone, was man handled by a man 4.5 inches shorter and 17 pounds lighter than him for 12 full rounds. Margarito, who weighed a strong 165 pounds for the fight was not able to capitalize on his height and reach advantage as Pacquiao employed an incredible fight plan as he dismantled the Tijuana Tornado.

Pacquiao not only proved his ring dominance and exceptional skills, but showed his compassion as he pleaded with referee Lawrence Cole to stop the fight. Pacquiao could have punished Margarito further in the championship rounds and possibly stopped him instead carried him to the scorecards with lighter punching and a sympathetic mind. Unfortunately, the one man who was not meant to protect Margarito was the only man who watched out for his well being.

Margarito is a warrior with the heart of a champion. He proved it, and no one would have thought less of him or his team for throwing in the towel against the greatest fighter on the planet. Referee Cole also could have stepped in and stopped Margarito from the Pacquiao onslaught. Pacquiao

proved his dominance and his thoughtfulness.

Coming out of a world class training camp, a great trainer and support system, Margarito still could not handle the world’s greatest fighter, Pacquiao. But who could? The obvious answer is a showdown with Floyd Mayweather. If that is not to happen, the only other interesting options for Pacquiao would be to fight the winner of next week’s middleweight battle between Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez. This could be for his 9th world title in his 9thweight class or, if with Paul Williams, at the welterweight limit in which he insists he can still make.

On November 13th we saw the heart of a fighter looking for redemption, the kindness and skill of one of the greatest fighters to ever live, and a fight of the year candidate. Unless one of the fights within the next month is a fire fight, which is likely, there are not many fights that can compete with last nights entertainment. All the best to Margarito in his recovery, and to Pacquaio who deserves the undisputed pound for pound title.

  1. Margarito showed all the heart in the world and manny proved hes the best in the world again. I dont think it would be a good idea for manny to go up anymore weight classes. I dont even think he can because of his size, He couldnt even make the weight this time. I dont see him going any heavier than he is now.

  2. manny pacquio and margarito…have a good fight i hope manny and margarito ar fine…..manny and maragarito do there best…..im so proud of manny and margarito….

  3. The referee’s license should be revoked. He did not seem to know when to properly stop a senseless fight. So do with the trainer of Margarito.

  4. Honestly think either one is a bad fight for Manny, and I doubt he will fight either one but if he does then thats great but I see him fighting someone out of the 140 pound division before fighting Martinez or Williams.
