According to recent reports, Tijuana’s three time world champion in as many divisions Erik “Terrible” Morales has raised the rhythm of his training for his upcoming match up on December 18th, in his hometown against Argentinean Jorge “Hyena” Barrios. The bout will mark the third time Morales climbs through the ropes in his come back after taking a two and a half year hiatus. Morales is training in the Otomi Mountains of central Mexico as he has done for his two previous contests of his come back. In the first, he earned a tough but unanimous decision versus former world champion Jose Alfaro of Nicaragua while in his second; Morales stopped Willie Limond of Scotland last September.

The Morales-Barrios contest is slated for the Caliente Stadium found in the installations of the legendary Caliente racetrack. The stadium is used primarily as the home of the Tijuana’s professional soccer team, Xolos of Tijuana, and has been the venue for several sold out concerts by a number of regional Mexican acts.

“My wish is to finish off the year with a win,” Morales stated from his training camp.

At play is Morales’ WBC silver jr. welterweight title which he captured after defeating Limond. Morales has stated that his goal is to challenge Juan Manuel Marquez for one of the fellow Mexican’s lightweight titles so that he could become the first Mexican born fighter to win titles in four different divisions.

  1. Barrios is out of the fight, supposedly the judge that is handling his murder case is not letting him out of the country.
Not sure how this wasn’t sorted out before, but it really sucks.

  2. Morales has no business fighting at 140 lbs. Does he think he can beat Amir Khan or Marcos Maidana ? He’s gonna have to id he wants a recognized belt. What’s up with the bullshit silver belts ???
