Up and coming Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who is coming off a win last weekend over Brian Camechis, stated that he has not interest in facing Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. inside a ring.

“No, I am not interested bucause I am going for bigger fights, bigger names,” he stated to Record.com.mx. “I am an important stage in my career and I want to fight good fighters, fighters with a name. I want Pacquiao early next year or at the end of this one, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. doesn’t cross my mind.”

Alvarez also stated that he doesn’t see himself fighting in Mexico any time soon since he just signed a contract with Golden Boy Promotions for three fights in the U.S.

“I don’t think it will happen this year because I have three fights signed with Oscar De La Hoya,” said the native of Guadalajara, MX. “They are supposed to be big fights but there is still the possibility in fighting in Mexico.”

“Canelo” says to be preparing for his next bout in the United States.

“May 1st will be my next fight against Ricky Hatton’s brother, Matthew,” Alvarez said. “It is on the undercard of Mayweather-Mosley and it is a very important fight. We will be ready.”

  1. Canelo is just like Fernando V. they put him in to quick with good opponents and got his ass whooped. That’s the reason Chavez started slowly, so he wouldn’t end up like that. That’s one of the reasons Canelo doesn’t want too fight him.As you all know, the Chavez name will make more money than a nobody like Canelo.Get your facts right, there could only one and that would be Chavez. He has more experience and like Chavez said, “Canelo ain’t nothing,he’s good, but not a great fighter”.

  2. both these guys havent proove to the boxing world nothing. they fight bums to build up there record thats all they do. out of the two i think canelo has a better future. they just need to slow it down because sooner or later there are gonna start looking at his win record and ask who has he fought. and right now records are good but the quality fighters they fought are not. i still think the next mexican warrior will be angulo hands down

  3. All you 9 people that commented on this, ya’ll need to know more about boxing, yes you are right, Canelo doesn’t want to fight Chavez because, he does not want to loose too early in his career. If he fights Chavez, Canelo will loose.
Like Chavez said, “Canelo ain’t nothing”. Chavez wants to fight him, Canelo doesn’t want to fight a real Mexican, they can take punches. And then again Canelo throws punches like an idiot until he gets lucky lands a hit. Jr. whatever he fights, he know he will hit it. What you guys are looking at, that he is stronger than Chavez. But strength doesn’t beat a real fighter. Especially when he is quicker than him. So when the fight is on, you will see who is the true Mexican champion, remember Canelo is just a beginner and has been lucky with that hit that he does not know he’s throwing. Because he just throws like an idiot.
So, ya’ll Canelo fans, keep on thinking that he is the man. But you gotta remember if ya’ll know about boxing, Oscar could not get Jr. cause Jr. doesn’t like him. And you people that think Manny P. is a bad-ass remember Chaves Sr. whooped his ass. in their prime, so that tells you, that’s what a Mexican can d. Everybody that tried beating him, failed, except Chavez, so never forget the name “Chavez” a true champion.

  4. Indeed its time for new a Mexican to shine, we need someone to represent. he is in with the right people Oscar De La Hoya-he will guide him and take him to the next level.
beware bring him up carefully the kid has strong potential and will be a true champ!!l

  5. It’s not that we expect too much…it’s because he’s that good at the age of 19…I agree the about the welterweight class is stacked but he has a bright future ahead of him If he’s lead through the rite path…he’s not ready for the top of the welterweight class…just give the kid
some time to grow and he can become a great fighter…he’s humble and I wish him nothing but the best

  6. You people expect too much from alvares!… He still needs more xp and hes barely 19 years old i dont think hes gonna be able to stay in the welterweight division in a couple of years… Let hes body and mind mature!…

  7. I agree that Alvarez doesn’t need to fight JC Chavez Jr. Chavez brings nothing to the table and is not a big draw. Hopefully Golden Boy Promotions puts Alvarez against good qualified prospects or a good veteran. Chavez better get on the same boat or he will just go away and keep fighting bums. At some point no one will care anymore. I remember one of his previous opponents looked like the hill billy from the Simpsons. In all fairness though, Alvarez hasn’t faced any quality fighters either. I would throw him in with a Winky Wright or Cory Spinks just so he could get tested. Sam for Chavez.

  8. I agree with all you guys Canelo is very impressive and I think that will become a star one day.

  9. And to think that Hatton’s brother was an option for Mayweather just a few months ago lol, he’s not an elite fighter but I agree he is a good test for Canelo, much better opponent than anyone that Chavez has fought yet.

  10. This kid has great potential and looks like he has the mentality of a champion, instead of waiting around and build a bunch of useless wins like Chavez Jr. is doing, Canelo is thinking big, he looks much better than Chavez inside and outside the ring so why should he even think about facing Chavez, I think he is way pass Chavez and he soon will be ready for the big fights.

  11. Chavez Jr doesnt want to fight him eather trust me, Julito wants fighters who have a record with 10 wins and 25 losses, ill have to say Alvares is at this time our last hope to have a great mexican champ
