Unbeaten Filipino lightweight sensation Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (18-0-1, 8KOs) takes another step towards a title shot when he returns to the airwaves and faces tough Mexico City, MX, journey man Genaro Trazancos (22-11-1, 13KOs) for ten rounds on Friday, August 20th, at the Casino Del Sol in Tucson, AZ. The Don Chargin Promotions in association with Jorge Marron Productions and Golden Boy Promotions presented main event will be televised by Telefutura’s “Solo Boxeo Tecate.”

Gesta of San Diego, CA, by way of Cebu, Philippines, is coming off an impressive 4th round stoppage of Oscar Meza for the WBO NABO Youth lightweight title earlier this summer. With the win, the quick fisted southpaw earned a top fifteen spot on the WBO 135 lbs. list and now is gunning for a shot at the title.

Trazancos should prove a tough trial for the young Gesta as the thirty-four fight veteran has faced the much stiffer competition with the likes of Edwin Valero, Steven Luevano, Jose Miguel Cotto and Roman Martinez filling up his ledger.

To prepare for the stern test, Gesta has traveled two hours north of his home base to the world famous Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, CA, to find top notch sparring where he went quality rounds with Manny Pacquaio’s chief sparring partners, welterweight Abdullah Amidu (18-0, 17KOs) and Raymundo Beltran (23-4, 15KOs)..

“I am in great shape and I am not over looking Trazancos,” Gesta said about his next opponent after a heavy work out session. “Anybody that they put in front of me is in trouble. I am focused and ready to fight. I am ready for a world title, I want (Michael) Katsidis.”

“We’ve had a great camp here at the WIld Card, we can’t thank coach Roach enough for his help and support,” Gesta’s co-manager and trainer, Vince Parra, added. “Mercito has handled Amidu and Beltran well, it’s just a matter of time before people realize his talent.”
