After months of campaigning, it seems that the #1 pound for pound fighter in the world Manny Pacquio will add another win to his ledger as authorities in the Philippines have all but named him the victor in his race for a congressional seat in his home country. According to the tallies Pacquiao has captured 85% of the vote over his rival Roy Chiongban.
Despite Pacquiao’s win in the political arena, Bob Arum, President of Top Rank and Pacquiao’s promoter, has hinted that Pacquiao could return to a boxing ring as early as November 6 or 13th. Arum did not speculate against whom Pacquiao will return against but Floyd Mayweather Jr, who defeated Shane Mosley in his last outing earlier this month, was the top runner.
Second to Mayweather was Antonio Margarito who after not fighting for more than a year and a half, made his successful return to boxing in Aguascalientes, MX, this past Saturday with a dominating win over Roberto “La Amenaza” Garcia.
According to Freddy Roach who finds himself in New York City with Amir Khan for Khan’s defense of his WBA jr. welterweight title against Paul Malignaggi this Saturday night, stated that talks for a proposed Mayweather-Pacquiao bout could begin as early as today as soon as Pacquiao’s win of the congressional seat has been made official.
“I think the fight will happen. Probably in November or October,” Roach stated. “Even though November is not that great of a month for PPV but I think it will happen.”
Roach did not mention if Team Pacquiao will succumb to Mayweather’s demands of Olympic style drug testing which made their talks for a bout earlier this year fail.
As far as Margarito, he is hoping that his promoter and a team of lawyers will be able to argue for the reinstatement of his boxing license in the United States after it was suspended for allegedly packing his fists with illegal handwraps prior to his WBA welterweight championship loss to Shane Mosley in early 2009.
“The lawyers are in charge of that and all I do is concentrate on preparing myself,” Margarito stated after his last bout which he won via unanimous decision. “I hope we can make the fight against Pacquiao before the end of the year. I hope Bob Arum can make some changes with my situation in the U.S.”
Berto will be an interesting fight for Pacquiao because he has power but I don’t think he could handle the SPEED and POWER of the #1 P4P champ.
A few things…
I don’t see Pacquiao fighting at 135 lbs anymore. If anything 140 lbs makes more sense because of the talent available at that weight class. Khan, Maidana, Bradley, etc. I don’t see Gamboa fighting at 135 lbs just yet. Give it two years…
A fight with Berto makes perfect sense. Who else can he really fight besides Mayweather ? Berto is at the top of many people lists as far as pound for pound rankings. Guess what, he ‘s a welterweight. PERFECT !
Leave Margarito out of the Pacquiao talk. He needs to rematch with Cotto and Paul Williams. If he wins, get a fight against Sergio Martinez.

well pacman vs gamboa does sound gd but who doesnt sound gd next to pacman.. gamboa is a great fighter but noway he stands a chance against pacman. pacman is much faster and gamboa has no defensive skills. he likes to throw punches doesnt care if he gets hit or not. how about pacman unifying the division??? mosley-berto-and zaveck.

I don’t think Manny’s camp would take on such deal at 135 and a fighter who’s not that well known.
Arum always wants to get the biggest piece of the cake. We still do not know what’s in his mind right now. 🙂
hmmm.. i would like to see paquiao-gamboa fight. gamboa is now @ 126, they could arrange a fight @ 135, that would be a great match up.. pacquiao have never face a fighter as fast as gamboa.. to those who have’nt seen yourokis fight, i will tell you now, this guy can beat pacman to the punch.
Margerito does not deserve a fight with manny.. He also cheated against cotto!! Cotto needs a come back and it should be against margerito.. Cotto would knck him out if they fight again!!!
Only Floyd can bring out the best in Pacquiao. Berto will not win cause he’s a slugger too. Pacquiao likes to fight sluggers and come up with a win but he’s not that good in fighting boxers and counter punchers.
I see Manny vs. Floyd will be a great fight. I wish this could happen this year.
If it’s not Mayweather, he should fight WBC champion Andre Berto, another champion at the top of his game, strong and fast like Manny Pacquiao. That would make for a very exciting fight.
