Is James Toney confused? Didn’t he sign with the UFC? He’s a mixed martial artist now. He did that because most fans got tired of watching him at 230 pounds trudge through another jab and hug fest.

The UFC’s Dana White hasn’t laid out the Toney gameplan yet so Toney has turned his attention and trash talk back toward boxing. Now he’s calling out another guy who won’t fight him, thankfully, because no one wants to see it.

“I told you [about] Bernard [Hopkins],” said Toney. “His mom must have had sex with a goat. He comes in with his head first always, running in like a baby ram, you know what I’m saying?”

Toney didn’t enjoy BHop’s fight against Roy Jones Jr. and certainly doesn’t like the fact that he’s out of the running for real paychecks in boxing.

“That’s his game and all-time great fighters didn’t fight like that. They don’t run in hitting and holding with they head down. As a matter of fact, if that was me in there with Bernard last night, Bernard wouldn’t go six rounds with me and he knows it. That’s why he pulled out a couple of years ago when we were supposed to fight because he knows the real deal. He knows I will [expletive] him up. I will launch his ugly snaggletooth ass into outer space.”

Good stuff from Toney. It’s certainly causes a chuckle. But why is a guy who’s been too lazy to train and keep himself below 217 pounds since 2003 calling out a light heavyweight? It’s also a bit ridiculous to criticize a guy who’s 45 and still works as hard as Hopkins does.

  1. James Toney was a great champion and one of the best defensive fighters I have seen. Has he stayed in shape the past ten years, he could have cleaned up the heavyweight division. Sounds crazy but true.
