It is said that when Jorge Linares reached his dressing room after his devastating defeat at the fists of Mexican Juan Carlos Salgado, he was not conscious of what had transpired inside the ring just seconds before.  Now, four days later, Linares feels that rest is better than an immediate rematch for the WBA super featherweight title.

“It happens it this sport.  This is the way of this business and we mush accept it,” the Venezuelan fighter stated.  “I will never stop working to keep my place among the best in the world but I will take some time to rest after this chapter in my career.”

llLinares (27-1, 18KO) stepped into the ring as the favorite over the 24 year-old Salgado (23-0-1, 17KO) but was stopped 73 seconds into the contest. Linares was first sent to the canvas after a hard left hook to the temple.  Linares was able to beat the count but only to be met with an onslaught of punches from the soon to be new world champion prompting the referee to waive off the fight after Linares met the canvas a second time.

Linares stated that he would be in Venezuela for some time and then travel to Panama for business and wanted to forget boxing for a little bit after “a tough year.”

Linares did share that he would continue in the super featherweight division and that according to his promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, will participate in a couple of bouts in the United States before looking for a world title or a big name fight.
