Edwin Valero is promoted as the most intimidating fighter in boxing today.  With a perfect record of 25-0, 25KO and a Guiness world record of 19 straight knockouts in the first round, the Venezuelan has grown tired of stating that the best fighters in the world have ducked him.

But Antonio DeMarco (22-1-1, 16KO) of Los Mochis, MX, but residing in Tijuana, would like to send him a message: He is not afraid of him.

demarcoValero released to the press that he would be defending his WBC lightweight title against DeMarco on December 12th in Caracas, Venezuela, but it did not happen and not because DeMarco didn’t want it.

“It was something that we saw in the papers and on the internet,” DeMarco explained.  “We never received the contract that he said he sent and we never received a formal offer.”

DeMarco is slated to face Jose “JawBreaker” Alfaro (23-4, 20KO) of Nicaragua this coming October 31st in Las Vegas, NV, for the Interim WBC lightweight title.

“It was never a situation where we were ducking him, not him or anybody.  Our promoter Gary Shaw offered us the fight with Alfaro for the Interim title because Valero was not avalable” DeMarco stated.

DeMarco assures that Valero does not intimidate him and on the contrary, he was excited on the possibility of facing the Venezuelan champion.

“I don’t like to talk, I respect my opponents, but I am going to speak the truth.  When it was mentioned that I could fight Valero, my trainer and my promoter thought it would be best if we waited and went after the interim title,” DeMarco revealed.  “For me to get a little bit more experience before that fight.”

“I went to the gym and I told my trainer Don Romulo, that with all due respect, but I have earned my chance for the title and I want to fight Valero.  I feel that I am physically ready and mentally to defeat him and that is the fight that I want.”

“I hope it can happen in the future, but first I have to deal with Alfaro, which is not an easiy fight,” DeMarco stated.  “No need to think about Valero now, we need to go after Alfaro.”
