In front of 16,000 boxing fans and millions watching, WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (38-2, 37 KOs) successfully defended his world title against previously undefeated #1 ranked contender Cristobal Arreola (27-1, 24 KOs). After ten rounds of one-sided pugilism, Arreola’s corner told the referee that they had seen enough and waived it off giving “Dr. Ironfist” a tenth round TKO on Saturday night at the Staple Center Arena in Los Angeles.

“Plain and simple, he beat my ass. Whatever it was, that’s his style and it works for him. He knows how to use his distance, he pulls back and counters with it. I was trying not to fall into that but I did a couple of times and he got me with a right hand and hooks, that’s his style and that’s how he fights, he’s strong,” Arreola said during the post fight press conference. “He made me fight his fight and every time I thought I had an upper hand, his experience showed in the ring. He found a way to move around and for me to chase him. I have a bitter taste in my mouth. I am not happy with this loss.”

When asked about the number of punches that he actually landed, 86 of 331, against a man who used his height and reach to perfection.

“He kept running back and I kept missing because he moved a lot, I tried to move from behind his jab, but he moved too well and I couldn’t catch him,” stated Arreola. “He adapted to the fight better than I did. I wasn’t able to do the things I wanted to do, plain and simple, there’s nothing to it.”

After the fight Chris Arreola leaked out his emotions to Larry Merchant during his interview, with tears running down his face he apologized to all his boxing fans. When asked why he was so emotional, he responded.

“I don’t like losing, I hate losing, I don’t have the heart to lose and that’s why I was crying because it really hurt. Vitali did what he had to do and he beat me,” Arreola concluded. “I want to get back in the ring as soon as possible, maybe December or January, I have a bitter taste in my mouth and I want to show every one that I can be champion.”

Vitali Klitschko was surprised on the number of hits that Arreola absorbed but his win came was no surprise.

He can take a hit, he has a great chin and a big heart, he gave me a tough fight,” said Klitschko. “Before the fight I told Arreola he has all the skills to be a world champion, big heart, big punch, but he doesn’t have experience, experience is the main point in any job. You can be a journalist or a boxer, you have to understand experience comes within time.”

Chris Arreola is known for his power punches and when Klitschko was asked if he was ever hurt or if he hits hard, he said.

“He was landing some great body shots, he had a big punch, I felt his power but I didn’t let him punch me so I cant say he hurt me,”

With pinpoint accuracy and brutal efficiency, Vitali Klitschko disposed of Chris Arreola with surprising ease, ending Arreola’s dream of becoming the first man of Mexican descent to win a share of the heavyweight title.

  1. Hey, JAIME MARQUEZ, it’s CRISTOBAL, not Christian (Arreola). And the fact that he did not run around the ring like “KLISHKO AND MAYWEATHER” (Klitschko, btw..) should be attributed to his inability to do so. Because he is fat. And curses a lot 🙂 But overall probably a good guy, since he did not brag the american style a lot. He’ll come back.

  2. I AM VERY PROUD OF CHRISTIAN ARRIOLA FOR FIGHTING LIKE A TRUE MEXICAN. YOU SHOWED MORE HEART THAN MARQUEZ DID. BUT TO SEE BOXING GO TO BOXERS WHO RUN IN THE RING LIKE KLISHKO AND MAYWEATHER DO IS A SHAME. THEY WOULD HAVE GOTTEN THERE ASSES WHIPPED BY TRUE FIGHTERS LIKE , ALI, FRASIER, NORTON, FOREMAN, LEANARD, HEARNS, DURAN, AND MORE. EDGAR YOU THINK YOU ARE SOME KIND OF EXPERT BUT YOU HAVNT BEEN WATCHING BOXING AS LONG AS I HAVE. AND THATS WHY ALOT OF FANS ARE GOING TO MMA. THEY ARE TIRED OF SEEING THESE GUYS RUNNING AROUND THE RING WITHOUT GETTING CAUGHT. IN MMA THESE GUYS WILL GRAB RUNNERS AND EITHER BEAT THEM OR KNEE THEM OR CHOKE THEM BUT THEY WILL RUN NO LONGER. HA, HA. CHRIS KEEP ON BEING TRUE TO YOURSELF AND YOU WILL BE CHAMP ONE DAY. YOU ARE ALREADY A CHAMP WITH ME. JAIME MARQUEZ
