Juan Manuel Marquez must defend his WBO lightweight title against interim champion Michael Katsidis. If he tries to dodge Katsidis, he will loose his WBO title and Katsidis will become the full champion. The WBO has issued letters directing Marquez to defeind his belt against Katsidis.

marquezJuan Manuel Marquez won the vacant title back in February when he knocked out Juan Diaz. The WBO allowed him to go forward with a September fight against Floyd Maweather Jr. – as long as he agreed to defend his title against the winner of Katsidis vs. Vicente Escobedo, who fought for the interim-title on the Mayweather-Marquez undercard.

Considering Juan Manuel Marquez options, I seriously doubt the possibility of him agreeing to fight Katsidis. In the last month alone, at least half a dozen fighters have called out Marquez including Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan, Paulie Malignaggi and Edwin Valero. And, there is still no guarantee that Marquez will even return to 135-pounds.

  1. I agree with Edgar. A hatton Marquez fight will be entertaining and provide Marquez with a decisive win. I don’t think Hatton has the ability or talent to take on a boxer like Marquez

  2. I don’t care much about this fight, Marquez Hatton sounds better, what about Valero and DeMarco, Showtime last weekend said they will be fighting news year, is this inked already? do we know where? because Valero can’t fight in the US yet, so maybe Mexico?

    Now this would a very interesting fight, 100% support for my man DeMarco, this would be Valero’s real test, the only thing that DeMarco doesn’t need to do is go toe to toe with Valero, we do know that he has big power in those punches and from what I saw in his last fight, I’m not to sure about his overall skills, he was fighting with his chin and head straight up, leaving his chin wide open when punching, he got lucky he landed first and from that view you can box him all night long and even KO him if that is the way he normally fights.
    This could be a really good one.

  4. @EXAMINERAUTHOR your right, JMM vs. Edwin Valero will be even Better! but Valero might be fighting our boy Antonio DeMarco on Feb 6.

  6. I would like to see JMM fight Katsidis. Though I believe, between them, JMM has the better chance to win.

    Personally, I prefer to see him fight Edwin Valero. I just want to see how good Valero is. Valero had been fighting bums for purposes of padding his biodata with ridiculous victories.
