Don King said last Thursday his 78th birthday wish was for the California State Athletic Commission don-kings-birthday-wish-thumbto overturn the decision made in the Aug. 1 prizefight featuring WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley vs. Nate Campbell and make it “no contest.” His wish was granted today. The CSAC met today in Los Angeles and determined that an accidental head butt in round three that left a serious gash over Campbell’s left eye should have been ruled no contest after the fight was stopped on advice of the ringside physician after the round.

This corrects the ruling made in favor of Bradley on the night of the fight at Agua Caliente Resort, Casino & Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

“I only asked for justice for my fighter Nate Campbell, and that is what I received from the California State Athletic Commission today,” promoter Don King said. “I applaud the members of the commission for righting this wrong, and I have a phone call in to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to congratulate him on this important decision.

“This is a victory for the boxers, the sport and the great state of California upholding the rules of justice and fair play. The fairest outcome of all is the one they chose where neither fighter’s record is blemished from a match that was halted early due to an accidental clash of heads.”

  1. If a decision which has already been rendered during a fight long time ago can be still changed thereafter – in favor of Nate Campbell – into a “no contest” – then why can’t the “DRAW” decision be not also changed into, at least, a SPLIT DECISION in favor of MANNY “PACMAN” PACQUIAO. I am referring to the first fight between JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ and MANNY PACQUIAO where one of the judges publicly admitted his mistake in the computation of the scores he made on his card. It must be borne in mind that Manny sent Marquez THREE TIMES to the canvass right in the first round. Up to now Marquez is bragging to the whole world that he never lost to Manny. I therefore strongly suggest or request the appropriate boxing authorities in the US to also change and/or correct that DRAW DECISION into SPLIT DECISION in favor of MANNY PACQUIAO for the sake of JUSTICE. Mistakes in history can be corrected, isn’t it? A MISTAKE IS A MISTAKE. The mistake of the judge was made in public but the decision was never changed.
Also, in that fight between Marquez and MARCO ANTONIO BARRERA, Barrera sent Marquez to the canvass through a legitimate punch. The referee did not see the punch but he ruled it a foul. That incident was very clear in the replay. THAT FOUL SHOULD ALSO BE CONVERTED INTO A LEGITIMATE PUNCH. LET US GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE. Barrera should have been declared the winner in that fight if not for the “foul” called on him where he was given a deduction by the referee.
