Kelly PavlikKelly Pavlik was scheduled to collide against the champion of the reality TV show The Contender, Sergio Mora on June 27th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. An ongoing staph infection on Pavlik’s hand failed to clear up and therefore the fight has been cancelled.

What is a staph infection you may ask? It is a type of infection caused by a Staphylococcus (or “staph”) bacteria. The infection often begins with a little cut which gets infected with bacteria. These staph infections range from a simple boil to antibiotic-resistant infections to flesh-eating infections.

I like Kelly Pavlik and I think he’s a great fighter but his promoters turned him into a Pay-Per-view star and to be honest I wouldn’t pay to see Pavlik vs. Mora nothing against “the Latin Snake” but Pavlik’s recent fights have been boring. His fight against the 43 year old Bernard Hopkins was embarrassing. It was like Hopkins taking candy from a baby. I am not even going to get started with Marco Antonio Rubio.

I would love to see Kelly Pavlik against a quality opponents like Paul Williams, Arthur Abraham or Carl Froch. Until then no more PPV for the Ghost of Youngstown, Ohio Please!

  1. While I am sorry Kelly Pavlik having an injury, I am delighted that the fight against the mediocre (at best), Sergio Mora fight was canceled.

This is the type of garbage match up that really hurts boxing.

Mora is one of the pumped up, low talent fighters that got publicity from being on “The Contender” series. Ugh.

At middleweight and super middleweight, there are so many excellent fighters and it should be that top fighters should fight EACH OTHER.

Instead of fighting someone decent, after Pavlik got destroyed in his “over his natural weight”, shelling from Bernard Hopkins, he should be fighting legitimate top fighters in his division.

Mora has a familiar name because of The Contender series, not because of any talent or punching power.
    Ugh.

    Jon
