So when word began to spread in recent days that Chavez, notoriously heavy between fights, was having a terrible time making the contract weight of 168 pounds for his fight against Brian Vera on Saturday night at the StubCenter in Carson, Calif., it came to no surprise.

On Monday, Chavez Sr. told the media that the weight limit for the fight had been increased to 173 pounds, despite there being a signed contract for 168. And instead of a schedule 12 round it has been changed to a 10 rounder.

When the fight was first being negotiated, Pelullo said the weight proposed was originally 162 pounds. Pelullo said the Chavez camp then kept inching it up, to 164, then to 165, 168 and finally to 173.

“The weigh-in is at 3PM on Friday,” said Bob Arum, “the only weigh-in in the history of boxing where we see the fighters making weight and we REVEAL the weight [limit] for the first time at the weigh-in. Something very unique in boxing, so everybody come because it’s not the normal weigh-in.”

It’s nice that Chavez is allowed to buy his way to a heavier weight, regardless of what the contract says. What a true champion he is. (Being sarcastic)

  1. It’s a good thing that majority of even his biggest fans are turning on this fat whinny kid. He doesn’t feel the need to apply himself to his craft because he can piggyback off his dad’s name and make a better living than most guys who work much harder in Boxing and just end up getting screwed over. Guys like Carlos Molina (who finally got a much deserved title) and now Vera. He should do the sport a favor and quit cuz it’s obvious he can give two shits about his fans. Plain and simple he shows up to take their money I hope he quits or someone beats his ass and knocks him out.
