Fighting on ESPN Friday, June 28th!

Sergio Mora hopes to get back in the win column on Friday, June 28. On this night, he’ll lace up against Grzegorz Proksa in the main event of ESPN 2’s “Friday Night Fights.” Their bout, scheduled for 10 rounds, will air from Jacksonville, Florida.sergio-mora-boxer

Mora, known as “The Latin Snake,” is returning to the ring after his August 2012 loss to Brian Vera. He tells me this is a “make or break” time and it all starts with a victory over Proksa, whose style is similar to his own. Calling his foe a “Polish Latin Snake,” Sergio (23-3-2, 7 KOs) hopes to win the war versus Proksa (29-2, 21 KOs).

I caught up with the former WBC Light Middleweight Champion at a recent charity fight night with the Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation. The East L.A. native was happy to support any cause involving his mentor, Ray Leonard. The two worked together on the first season of “The Contender” reality-TV competition in which Mora was declared the champ.

During our video chat, Mora talks about the huge amount of respect he has for Leonard, saying each year the “Big Fighters, Big Cause” gets bigger and better. He also talks about the upcoming “Hands of Stone” film commenting that both Sugar Ray and Usher (who will play Leonard in the bio pic) share a “femininity” in reaching their sensual side that appeals to fans worldwide.

In the video below, Sergio also replies to the “Fantasy Fight” question of (if both were in their prime): Who wins Sugar Ray Leonard or Floyd Mayweather Jr.?

And of his own upcoming fight, will Mora win his match against the hard-hitting Polish slugger Proksa?

“He looks like a ‘Polish Latin Snake’! It’s gonna be a tough fight, he’s a southpaw…Any time you fight a southpaw is always difficult,” he shares. “This is a ‘make or break’ for me. I need to get back to where I need to be–and it all starts with Proksa!”

Tune in on June 28 to find out if “The Latin Snake” prevails over “The Polish Snake”!
