The Associated Press is reporting that Philippine tax officials have filed a criminal complaint against Manny Pacquiao for failure to submit documents to investigators looking into his tax returns.

Prosecutors will now decide if there is enough evidence to bring the case to court, where Pacquiao could face up to two years in jail if convicted.

Bureau of Internal Revenue regional director Rozil Lozares says a complaint was filed March 1 after Pacquiao failed to submit the documents despite three notices and a subpoena.

He said Thursday that Pacquiao’s 2010 tax return contained “discrepancies” considering his many businesses and endorsements.

According to the Bureau of Internal Revenue, Pacquiao paid P100 million in 2008 but only paid P7 million the following year. And as mentioned, they’re still trying to chase down the income from his 2010 fights and other ancillaries.

ESPN listed Pacquiao with earnings of $32 million in 2010, Sports Illustrated placing him among the “Fortunate 50,” Forbes magazine fitting him last year as the world’s 24th richest athlete no doubt you are going to draw attention.

  1. ha ha! in the Philippines only small fish swim in the aquarium…Large fish can even swim in the land ha ha..live in the Philippines and experience it’s culture and how the law work so you will understand how it is to have money money …IRS in the US and BIR in the Philippines are two different entities..So if your in US, don’t think about the Philippines in your context coz you will become laughing stock

  2. I don’t get how none of these big name fighters manage their finances in a proper manner, Pay your taxes and invest so your still not getting smacked around like Roy Jones and Holyfield at age 40+. However I’ve also heard something about him harboring a fugitive, very interesting I wonder how this will unfold. He’s got money so my guess is a little slap on the wrist
